How much, if any, of the trackwork is still in situ that led from the Miles Platting/Collyhust sidings to the top end of what is now left of the New Allen Street viaduct?
Have these sidings ever been used since they were relayed back in late 90s? On the diagram its has had "no go" in the signal birth for about the last 4 years so not much use recently!
I presume there was a plan for them at one point otherwise it seems alot of effort for a line that ends in a half demolished viaduct at one end and demolished stone terminal at the other!!
It was retained after an objection from the freight operators on the basis the stone terminal might be brought back into use.
To my knowledge it has never been used by a full train since we finished the ballasting-up in 1997.
Thanks for the Mr Locke. Deltic I doubt any alterations of the curve can occur as its mostly on a high embankment and trains are either coming slowly up the bank or slowing for a yellow or red on the approach to Victoria.
So this depot for the OHLE, is it a just a temporary thing or a proper long term maintenance location, least the sidings will finally see some use.
I don't know the area that well but would this work prevent easing of Miles Platting curve to anything above 20mph?
Miles Platting curve is 30mph each way, the Up & Down Ashton lines were realigned in 1998 when the whole Vic East Jn - Miles Platting - Thorpes Bridge Jn area was remodelled. There is no need to brake for the PSR, the gradient is 1-in-47 so a decent driver can use gravity to good effect.
As far as the Arrival and Departure line is concerned, it has been clipped and scotched out of use since at least 2004, only really being used for on- and off-tracking of OTP.
A few decades ago, perhaps. I'd have thought about £15M each now. Anyone have recent figures? Both would have to be skew bridges over dual carriageways.New bridges over A roads would only cost a £million each.
Who's to say that that will be on this route? We need to wait to see what they come up with for the so-called HS3.Besides I thought there was £4billion available to speed up the trans Pennine route?
