I'm still deciding whether or not I want to do another ALR at the end November to rake in some miles.

Anyone else done one at this sort of time of year? By that I mean, an entire week of travelling.

Was intending doing all Metrolink on Saturday, but unfortunately lines were closed partially north of Victoria so only did Ashton, Eccles, Altrincham and East Didsbury. They really need to use more double units on the Altrincham route, the trams were chocka. New trams are a vast improvement on the old ones. Altrincham and Ashton were pretty good, Eccles is a bit rundown but not bad, not really worth getting off the tram at East Didsbury as there's not much in the vicinity. Still, 47 miles done

Just a few like! :o

Aiming to go out and fill my books a bit more tomorrow, so should be working my way towards a modest bit of mileage hopefully :) Only tomorrow and maybe 2 more trips left to come this year

I was aiming for about 6k too, only 100 miles off from it so that should be easy, aim for 2014 is alot more though, trying for a personal record breaker to have a new highest for a year.

January diary is already getting big, so far January trips are:

- 2014 kick-off in Kent
- A day up near Crewe, probably NWC rover, WMDR, Manchester DayTripper, something (was to be the Pathinder track bash to Anglia, that's now full but I have tickets to Crewe on the Friday, may as well use it)
- Buffer Puffer 11 (though might be on the one in Feb with a Class 20)
- South West bash on the 57 beds and other local stuff
- Day trip to London

Personally, if I was sat on the fence with this issue, and I had the money/holiday time to do it, my reaction would be something like the following:

Fire up the broadband and get the WiFi on to get it all planned and booked, post haste, en-route to the station to get the ticket paid for and reservations made! No time like the present to get on a bash, after all what else do other enthusiasts do at this time of year?

Mind you, if I had my way, I'd be on a bash nearly every day of the year! FWIW, my reaction above may or may not be influenced by listening to My Chemical Romance's Welcome to the Black Parade <D

Jeepers, you've got a lot going on there! I'm around 196 miles off 8,000 miles, which I'll get much of the way through today (110 miles will just be getting to/from the main events of the day!) then after that I've got jack squat lined up for December. Even though I've booked my float day for 14th December purely to have a mega monster birthday bash, costs for that has escalated beyond all acceptable measures so looks like I'll be cancelling that day and sticking with one last WMDR for the year. Just when I'll be needing a monsterously good trip, gutting <(

January 2014, or indeed 2014 in general, I have nothing booked yet, although I have the following on my wish list, not all of which is possible but will be carried on year and year until it's done:

7 day First Class ALR
14 day First Class ALR
InterRail trips for: Benelux (enjoyed the last one so much!), Germany, Denmark, Norway (hopefully summer 2014), Sweden and others
Flights to/from various places, need to get the AFQR filled more and get my all-time air mileage up!
Eurostar bash at least once, likely to be to Brussels to get some Jupiler
As many trips to Scotland as it takes to get the NREA filled 100% (personally I reckon that's going to be at least 7 multi-day missions
Edinburgh bash some time after the trams FINALLY start running
Clear up the last bits of the PSUL workings I need to get done (only a few bits in England now, most of them on SET)
Get moving with clearing the light rail networks in the UK

Of course, the long term dream to visit Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the USA will be a long time coming

My trips have really slowed down since the nights have drawn in, and for various reasons I've not been out on the trains as much as I'd have liked. I'm now standing at 9601mi 11ch for the year this far, with another trip planned this weekend that should just kick me over the 10,000 mark - plus another in mid-December to the London area. I'd also like to set a day aside for another trip to South London to tidy up a few bits and bobs around there, but not sure whether I'll have time before the year is out.

Got back about 90 minutes ago from a rather good WMDR, with 8 winners and 1 winning shack. Those who follow me on Twitter will have seen the tweets forming the trip report. Gotta admit, it's a LOT quicker than typing a full blown trip report on here!

I know I'm going to be over 8,000 miles for the year now, but at the moment my logs don't have my BMO - STY and vice versa leaps on RailMiles as it refuses to acknowledge the existance of Stratford-upon-Avon Parkway, giving me either SAV or Stratford upon Avon East for options :| Anyone got the gen on mileage for Birmingham Moor Street to the station?

BMO to Stratford on Avon is 24m25ch.
This claims that Parkway is 78 chains before it so it should be 23m27ch (I think!)

Not posted on here for ages. I'm on 22782 so far but have nothing else planned for the year really. Need to try and get one more major trip in if I can but work will get hectic leading up to xmas. I'm some what short of my target which was a bizarre 26679. Why 26679? It would have taken me to 100k for the four years since I have got back into this. Even more bizarrely 26679 is exactly what i managed last year!

Have now beaten last year's 14064 with 15120 after a trip to Inverness full of incident (see this thread) and still a month left.

I can't see me getting any more this year, bit disappointed that I didn't clear 10k but I didn't exactly try hard. Next year will be better.

Looks like I'll be finishing 2013 on 8,286 miles. Over 3,000 more than my target for the year of 5,000, which was originally 2,500. That small target was due to circumstances at this time last year, which interestingly aren't too different to right now.

2014? Well I suspect it'll be a low mileage year so setting a target of 2,500 for sure. I'll be very surprised if I hit that mileage mind, what with everything I have planned for next year away from the railway! <D

Finally got round to updating my milage for the first time since September, which now stands at 50841 miles. This total is set to increase as I do two railtours over the next two Saturdays (both to Humberside)

I think this will probably be my year end total ,15660 ,after my trip to London on 21/12/2013. This currently places me 19th in the table. Not bad considering this is all leisure travel. No work or commuting and at Senior Citizen rates not priv rates.

My year end total looks to be 10310mi 21ch.

For the first time in quite a few years, I won't be travelling by train at all during December as things stand at present.

45201 will be my final figure for this year. Not as good as last year but considering that I didn't do as many Anglo-Scottish trips this time round, there were some big mileages I missed out on.

Same for me with the December thing, I cleared a little over 200 miles at the beginning of December and it's been it. I might be doing a few miles for non-cranking reasons in February, depending when I can book holiday time and when I make up my mind what beach holiday I want to go on and, quite, what happens with a certain situation coming up <D

Looks like my total is 14,011 miles (duration of 1w 3d 5h 36m, with an average speed of 55.8mph), which I'm pretty pleased with. Most of it came from The Highland Chieftain and the Sleeper, and all the bits in Scotland in between that.

I'm expecting next year to blow this away as I'm off interrailing!
