I barely remember my last bash to be honest. 3 weeks ago and wasn't very well either that day so I think it's one I prefer to bin memories of! Been busy this month either chilling out like I did on the 9th, the 16th I was working an extra day and today I'm waiting for my sister to get home as we're doing her birthday celebrations today instead of yesterday. Too nice to stay in yesterday so we went out by road to West Wales. Another lovely day today too, so whilst I'm not on a bash due to being skint, I'm off outside in a bit with some cider

Next bash will be coming up in a few days time though, hopefully it's a good 'un!

This figure should have been slightly higher, but I had to cancel a trip to London late last month (just prior to the Olympics) and had a cancelled train around the Cumbrian Coast earlier today, which forced me to settle for travelling via Penrith (50 miles less).

I'm struggling to find motivation lately for a British bash, although at the same time I'm glad I did a WMDR on Monday as I finally got 67014 red penned. Still 5 shacks away from clearing the WMDR area (need Bilbrook, Bloxwich North, Polesworth - that one will be interesting to try and do! - Bordesley and Danzey), then after that it's time to go mad on penning in all those re-numbered 390s, the 172s and finally finish off the 168s!

Off out in a couple of hours to go to the Isle of Man, the last part of the UK I've never been to. I'm hoping to do all the normal lines over there, although I'm pretty sure I won't have time to do the Groundle Glen line on this occasion. After this trip, I have my eyes set on Amsterdam (thanks to one of my colleagues reminding me of the idea) or Brussels next month...

How did you get from your origin to your destination?

Assuming you took the Piccadilly then HS1 that would be:

• Caledonian Road to King's Cross St Pancras - 1 mile 17 chains
• St Pancras International to Stratford International - 5 miles 79 chains
• Total: 7 miles 16 chains

Or if you took London Overground then DLR:

• Caledonian Road & Barnsbury to Stratford - 5 miles 2 chains
• Stratford to Stratford International - 0 miles 66 chains
• Total: 5 miles 68 chains

Currently on 35452 miles for the year.

My tally for the year should increase significantly over the next few days, visiting Swanage on Friday, Great Central on Saturday (morning only, for a final spin behind 37198), before heading to Aberdeen, then Royal Deeside Railway on Sunday. And of course I have to get back home from Aberdeen afterwards. If all goes to plan, my 'red pen' will be busy as well, with four 'new' kettles for haulage at Swanage, two class 03s and an industrial shunter at Royal Deeside.

Well as may be rather obvious, I've stopped bashing lately. A little over 4 weeks since my last journey on a train and not really missed it. Indeed, it's been a shade over 2 weeks since my last visit to the forum too!

I've got my trip to Ireland soon though, which I was going to cancel but decided that I wasn't willing to waste the money I'd already spent. It's now been declared a test trip to see if I still have any interest in the scene. Therefore the title for the trip is The Big Bash Theory, and yes I am a big fan of The Big Bang Theory before you ask!

Once I've done this trip to Ireland, all the normal passenger lines will be complete. Whether I'll come back with an interest in the scene at all I don't know, but what I do know is that September will be the first time I've gone through an entire month without going on a train in ages! You're probably wondering what I've been doing instead, that is:

Despite not travelling at all this month before the 27th September, I've managed to total 982mi 20ch this month. My total for the year now stands at 8540mi 71ch.

Well I've been on several trains in the last few days.Stil not managed to re-ignite my old passion for the scene yet though,but the free WiFi is keeping me occupied.I will be looking dor company for my next adventure,it's not the same these days.Must be getting old!

Sorry guys, but after a difficult and inconsistent summer I have decided to pull out of the mileage competition again. I estimate that I am on 6,100mi but it is just that - an estimate. Prior to the 30th of July my mileage was approximately 5,750mi; since then, it has hardly improved at all apart from one minor blip (or whatever the opposite of a blip is) between the 20th and 25th of September, and I have nothing else planned for another three weeks. On the plus side though, I have almost certainly set a personal best for First Class mileage this year, and for less than £100 as well (including ~120mi for free)...

I will probably compete again in 2013, but I can't imagine for one moment my result being substantial in any way. Now, if there was a bus mileage challenge, then not only would I enter, but to say I would be confident of winning is an understatement...!

Is it possible to add a field so that it can be indicated whether mileage is Leisure, Commuting or Both. It would help those of that do not commute to see where we really stand in the league. Or have a different league for Leisure only.

Good idea that, as I commute by bus I can't match commuters by rail. However I wouldn't mind a bus mileage one just so I could try and throw Ivo from the top of the table!

As for a bus mileage league, I like the sound of that. As I commute by bus 5 days a week, I'd have a chance of finishing in the top 20

But staff who actaully work on the trains can't (or shouldn't!) count their work mileage for the competition. Or do you mean those that have various forms of staff travel?

To answer the question of commuting v leisure, I would say that roughly 1/3 of my total is commuting to work though, as a holder of a residential pass, the demarcation between travelling to work and leisure travel is a very blurred one at times.

Discussing all this has reminded me that I badly need to update my mileage sometime, my current figure entered on here is around 10,000 miles short at a guess.

Staff who have travel privileges and use them to the absolute max! Not that I wouldn't of course...

I too ought to update my mileages, as I still haven't bothered to do the conversions from metres (taken data from Quail) from my Supertram moves back in July (I'd forgot about them until recently!) or got my latest Irish moves' mileages yet. Here cometh a new thread...

I finally added last Wednesday's moves to RailMiles, was my first trip in over a month. I now end 2012 with 17,851 miles, with the 2003 - 2012 total being 132,232.

Roll on 2013, target of just 2,500 miles

I'd forgotten this thread existed!

I've got quite a bit done over the last few months: I did more than I can list over summer, but I now tend to focus on longer runs out rather than shorter moves around cities or metro areas. Since October I've been to Westbury, Maidstone, Wye and Honiton all on daytrips (despite the awfulness of 0545 alarms in winter), the latter two were to do moves that ceased operation last week. Excellent. Booked on a few railtours between now and New Year and after that it's exams, so my next days out will probably be any I can squeeze in over late December or from January onwards.

My target for the year was to reach 10,000 miles and sadly, I've not quite succeeded as I'm standing at 9501mi 48ch. I've had to reduce my bashing somewhat due to working a huge number of hours, but with sufficient funds and a staff pass I'm going to try and get the last 500 after work this week (thank god for early turns!), though it will probably just mean runs down to St Pancras and maybe a bit in London if I have time. Not the best way to finish, but will help with clearing the Meridians and HSTs.

Let's see how it goes...

Mine is rather pathetic compared to some here.

Though I have added 4 metros (Berlin S/U Bahn, Amsterdam Metro, Glasgow Subway), 2 national railways (DB/NS) and 1 new Tram System. Though I tend to travel without the aim of maximising mileage.

Well I highly doubt I'll get any more miles in this year so it looks like I'll finish on 26575. It's about 5000 less than less year and 3500 less than my target. I just wasn't able to get out much in the last few months mainly due to cost. Never mind.

My target next year is 27000. This would take me to 100000 since I started recording my mileage back in May 2010.

Does anybody have the milage for Surrey Quays to Queens Road Peckham ? Railmiles has yet to be updated.

Using the 'ruler' facility on Google Earth it seems to be approx 1.5 miles, but there is no guarantee this figure is anywhere near accurate.

Finally passed the 10,000 mark. Though I think I did that back in September. Only got round to adding Aug-Dec information. Never though I would do that much to be honest. Been quite fun going to places I have never been. Also, most of my long distance journeys have been really cheap.

Hopefully I will be on at least 2,000 by the end of January with all my trips up north!
