My end of month total for April is a very small 291mi 22ch, giving a total of 3807mi 39ch for the year so far. I doubt the total for May will be much better, and may even be lower due to pressures of uni work.

A good end of April for me. In the last week I did 2732 miles which included a return trip Paris via Winnersh and a return trip to Huddersfield via Kings Cross. Also did Winnersh to Windsor return, Winnersh to London return, Paris to Disneyland, two WYPTE rangers and a GMPTE ranger. All for the rather nice price of £176 with the various tickets, Oyster and Paris Metro/RER. It was all the fiddly journeys that added to the cost!

Not really. I was staying with friends there before heading to Paris and added extra miles on the sat and sun that wasn't expecting to get. Had no idea what we would be doing.

Depends on the length of the ALR, 7 or 14 days. I got well clear of 5,000 on a 7 day ALR in 2011, with a target of 10,000 for this year's 14 day ALR.

If you are serious enough and happy to use Sleepers constantly I would suggest that 10,000 is probably doable - but not recommended. If you only did the Highland Chieftain southbound and the Highland Sleeper northbound you would get something like 1,200 miles every 24 hours, which works out as 8,400 miles overall (not including the non-running of the sleeper on Saturday nights).

I would give an accurate figure for my 7 day ALR from 2011, alas RM appears not to like me doing a period search so I give up for now! Your total beats mine though, of that I'm sure.

My 2011 ALR had quite a cautious plan, all the kind of connections a journey planner would give you. Although I had 2 sleeper nights and a hotel, plus starting on the first train of the day at 10am on the Sunday and last train in home in the week arriving at 10pm.

I did 4719 miles on a 7 day ALR, probably would plan something quite a lot more ambitious next time!

Can honestly say that I have never done an ALR but I have clocked up around 9,000 miles on a 21 day Inter Rail.

I'd say 10,000 is dead easy, I've managed 11000 on a 7 day ALR, could have had 12K but I didn't do much Sunday.

Mind you, I raked up some serious 90 mileage on the ScR sleepers a lot!

Aye I recall I got a lot of mileage on 90s when I did my 7 day ALR in 2011. Got 3 FSR sleeper moves booked for this year and 2 FGW sleeper moves. I had originally considered all FSR sleeper moves, but realised that meant leaving me going mad at *that* MK2 brake noise too much, so went with FGW on a couple for variety and MK3 luxury. The sooner MK3s are used on the seated sleeper coaches the better with FSR...

We'll see what I manage to get in two weeks without resorting to stupid things like KGX > YRK > KGX > YRK > KGX > YRK > KGX in just a few weeks time. As much as I like my foreign bashing these days, I can't wait for this ALR! Far too long since I last went on a bash!

After a very successful WMDR today, my mileage has jumped up to 5,616 Didn't know this morning if I'd enjoy a bash on British soils again after my recent discovery of worthwhile traction abroad, but today proved the UK rail scene fan in me is still alive and well!

Apparantly the full circuit taken by the AFRPS charters this weekend was about 7 miles but any confirmation on this would be appreciated.

Talking to a chap on one of the Sunday brakevan trips who was very clued up about the system, he reckoned that one complete circuit was 6.95 (decimal) miles though I believe that somebody with a GPS clocked one of the trips where a minor shunt was done as 7.01 (decimal) miles.

I was intending to try and measure it on Google Earth at some stage but have far to much on my plate right now (havn't even completely sorted out all the distances for the BLS tour at the end of March!)

Looking at my gloom and doom prediction from the end of April - I've already surpassed my total from April. Years mileage now standing at 4339mi 55ch - with May contributing 532mi 16ch of that, mostly on 365s and 222s.

Finally got round to adding things up and (bearing in mind my mileage up end of March was around 1,600 miles), I had a bumper April, adding just over 3,356 miles to the mix

Overall total as of end of April (minus a couple of DLR bits I am lacking mileages for) stands at 4,990 miles.

Added a bit more today and got a few more trips planned this month which will add to it again, though May mileage won't be a patch on April!

Now up to 2878 miles this year so far.

Added 564 Miles for VT 221s (WVH - EDB and Return)
Added 88 Miles for Scot Rails 334s (EDB - ARM, ARM - GLQ and return journeys)
Added 1.86 Miles with Scotrails 320s (GLC - EXB and Return)

So over weekend a total of 653.86 Miles.

Next journey won't be until August now though.

Well as expected my mileage has flown up, although I missed my target of 10,000 miles by some way. That was down to doing fiddly bits of coverage and branch lines though, as well as not doing many sleepers. Never doing a sleeper journey again if I can help it, I enjoyed my good nights of sleep in Travelodges too much, indeed I flagged the second FGW sleeper move to do another Travelodge instead! Now to see what position in the league I'm in...

EDIT: 11th, not bad but still not in the top 10! Still got over 4,900 miles to get this year to hit my 20,000 target for 2012. Just over 6 months to do it, should be managable. Especially if I do as I currently plan and book more journeys doing 390s and East Coast for long distance moves. It'll become obvious why in the trip report when I get that uploaded...

I've decided to join RailMiles - just tried to remember all my National Rail trips since the start of the year. Think I'm right on the distances but have guessed/assumed some of the traction. Was expecting it to be over 1000 miles due to regular WCML use but shocked to see it's over 3000 miles in five and a half months - it all adds up! Although it pales into insignificance compared to those at the top of the table.

Unsurprisingly Class 390s accounted for most of the mileage

Berlin to Potsdamn Platz by U55 and S Bahns
Kochstrasse to Hbf via U6 and S Bahn
Berlin Hbf to Leipzig

I've guessed at about 300 for the week (return and including the Trams in Leipzig)

My half yearly total is 26478 miles (assuming the milage was for the BLS Scunthorpe tour on 2nd June was around 18 miles). 26460 miles not counting the BLS tour.
