Staines to Bracknell and Winnersh to Bath Spa (changing at Reading) so far.

Damn, why can't the year start in December...? My total would probably be four-figures.

Thought I would have a go at this for 2010 so have just entered mileage for 2 trips made at the start of the year.

A day trip + travelcard from Rugby to London and Milton Keynes Central to Fulham Broadway.

Hope to make many more rail trips this year so will be interested to see what my final mileage will be!

The distances are in the Midlands and North West Quail map IIRC (Don't have one to hand right now)

Do you think that there could be a secondary competition for those that don't commute to work by train? Along the lines of a new field is provided in the User CP in which * indicates that you use the train to work? (Because otherwise some of us are at a distinct disadvantage.)

Look on the bright side, at least those who don't commute don't have to put up with delayed and overcrowded trains every day. Commuters may get more miles but it's no fun getting them.

I don't commute to work by train as I only live round the corner (10 mins walk max), all my travel is for leisure purposes and I don't bother with any journeys by u-bahn or s-bahn

I don't think I blame you if you're in Munich...

Have they replaced any more of the original U-Bahn stock yet? When I was there - 50 months ago, admittedly - only some the U6 [assuming it still is the U6; the one towards the Allianz Arena] had been done, and then only partially.

There are no more new u-bahn sets that I am aware of, they can be seen on various u-bahn lines, not just the U6. The majority of u-bahn trains are still the old ones which is a pity as the new ones are excellent.

BTW. when I said 'I don't bother with any journeys by u-bahn or s-bahn', I meant I don't include them in the mileage competition.

In May I intend to use the sleeper from Berlin to Malmo. The train is put onto a ferry between Sasnitz (Mukran) and Trelleborg. I presumably will stay on the train for the duration altough it may be possible to get off for a wander. The time at sea is 3h 40m so it must be a reasonable distance.

So, does the distance spent on the trainferry count towards the mileage competition?

Personally I would say no - the train itself isn't physically moving on tracks. An equivalent would be sitting in a Mk. 1 coach on an Alleley's low-loader being moved between preserved railways up the M1 then attempting to count the mileage!

Personally, I'd much rather have the München U-Bahn over the Rushmoor U-Bahn!
Despite my repeated suggestions and the blatant need for one in my area, Rushmoor/Hants councils still havn't installed any kind of high-speed mass transit down here...Probabally because the local councillors are far too busy filling their fat faces (As always) to not give a crap about what anyone bar themselves actually needs...

Anyhow...My mileage is still at 0mi 1ch alas...

No, ferry mileage, regardless of weather or not you're on a train, does not count. The train itself must move (on rails!) for mileage to count.

http://www.transportdirect.info does some mileage for trams, tubes, etc, but I don't know how accurate it is!

It is not atall accurate! Don't use it - its just measures the physical distance between the two places.

I'm not, I prefer the CORE one. But is it so bad that, for tube and tram journeys, you shouldn't use it? Because, so far, it's all we've got.

As I mentioned at http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?p=388457#post388457 there is a book available detailing mileages for many of the light rail systems - no Nottingham in it though, that was too recent! Quail maps probably have the distances too.
