Mileage Competition 2010

So far for 2010

I must have done quite a few miles to work and back 3 times a week, and a trip to Lincoln, 2 trips to Sheffield etc

316 Miles from work so far (Prestbury-Manchester Oxford Road return)

186 Miles, Prestbury-Lincoln return...

90 Miles, Prestbury-Sheffield return...

592 Miles total...

But by the end of the years it will be a huge number, as I'm going to Girona, Spain return in the summer from Manchester woop woop

I get 22 miles every week day through going to work and back, and usually go out somewhere on a Saturday otherwise I get bored very easily - it's all good fun!

Just incase anyone has any doubts, all my trips are logged in my railmiles account accessible from my sig vv

I put mine in a simple excel sheet which adds it all together automatically. Nobody should really have reason to doubt mine though. I'm not a basher, so even with an ALR starting next Sunday, there's no way I'll be near the top come December

Not sure exactly how much yet, but it is probably more than 1,900 (quite possibly 2,000). Except that my sheet is a bit messy, and already 40 rows long.

Correct (that is why I have taken a week to answer )

I never did get round to updating before I went and now have a bit of work to do to work out the tour mileages as well though do have the official CP gen to help out with most of that.

Hmm, partly, yes. Marginally over 500 is on a Great Escape run, though far from all of that 500 is with LM (I've paid for the first and last journeys, but the lesser ones I'll do on the day). In all, it's somewhere in the region of 1,930, plus I hope to do a Cardiff run on the 14th which'll add 100+.

As there is no reward or prize for winning, I don't think there's any need to take it quite as seriously as that! Its only a bit of fun

Quite agree, its just for the fun of it and is quite interesting to see what other people have done, I really doubt anyone is going to make up trips they have done, just for the sake of being top of a leaderboard, if they do its pretty sad.

I normally note mine in a text file on my main PC in something akin to the following format and tot it up manually:

At some point in the future - If I ever find myself with the time and the inclination to do so - I'm thinking that I might write my own open version of something like RailMiles to save me a few bob.

At present it's unlikely that I'll ever get around to it...But IF I do and come up with something that works properly, I'll make it an open source utility that anyone can download and use cost-free.

If you want, I'll send you a copy of my Excel file. It's not that tidy, but I could make it so. It has been designed to allow up to 1,000 journeys.

I guessed you were out there. I'm on day 7 of a trip around Switzerland (had 8 GE4/4-1s yesterday!) so a lot of distances to work out from my 120+ locos at some point!

I had to abort my 200mi run this weekend And next week is awkward because I'm doing the LM Great Escape on Saturday, though I suppose I could still do it next Sunday... Still, mid-3,000s by the end of the month

Damn, is this tough. I might have to change my aim to Top 10 Still, 10th at present, with an official distance of nearly 1,500 miles, with 2,000-ish coming up soon.

I might have to have a go at EM2's record. I've found a way to do 1,365mi in 23h12, not including any LUL etc distances. I've also found a way to make that just under 1,410 in exactly one day, but that has a nasty four-minute interchange at Clapham Junction
