I bring my own lunch to work normally so I should be ok, those chocolate muffins are pretty good though!!

I had a phone call this morning asking me to attend an assessment day this Sunday morning. I find it bizarre they do it on a Sunday. Anyone been to this assessment day? How long does it last and what is involved?

I had a phone call on Thursday for this one asking me to attend assessment, I couldn't make the date given due to holiday, but have been told I'll be put on a waiting list pending any further assessments.

Hi everyone! Didn't know this existed until today! Great forum, interesting and very helpful. I applied in July and then got a call on the 21st August. I had an assessment Sunday the 25th August, then had an interview the following week! Just had a medical on Monday and passed that! All gone very quick! Was just wondering, what's usually the next step? I don't want to be seen to be mithering HR! Any help would be much appreciated! I know they are looking at taking on a batch of drivers in October then more in January!!

The next step will be a contract and uniform letter through your letterbox.
I hear that the next course will be towards the back end of October.
There is currently a course running and once these trainees pass out then the trainers I think will be training us on the new Ashton line on our simulator.
I would expect you to receive documentation through anytime soon as they normally give you about Six weeks notice.

Thanks for the reply beavercreek. Yeah I'm looking forward to the training, been told its quite intense, but looking forward to it regardless. Yes think I was told back end of October and January! Finally be able to do something I'm gonna enjoy, going to have to get notices into current employer, when the letter drops! Will they be seeking references do you know?

They will ask for a reference once you have signed the contract.
The training is quite intense in parts and is a mixture of classroom and depot learning at first.
Due to all the extensions we will be recruiting lots of drivers over the next few years.You have done well to get here and I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Does anyone know when the next recruiting event will be and is there a maximum distance you can live from depots? I live in Bradford atm but would relocate very quickly if I ever got a job.

The general rule is One hour from the depot but due to shift patterns and length you really don't want to be outside 45 mins.

Would move to Burnley area so should be within 45min limit, long drive from Bradford to start off though I guess.

For the first 5 weeks you will be classroom and depot based and its Mon-Fri 0800-1600.
For the next 3 weeks, you normally work Mon-Thurs 1600-2300 and Sun 1000-1800.This is a mixture of classroom and driving.
For the rest of the training you will follow a rosta and drive in service with a minder driver.

Though I am aware of one driver commuting from Southport, and another from Stafford!

6 months and could be extende. That's one of the main reasons I declined the job offer from them.
