Sorry for the lack of updates to the fleet list as I’ve been very busy lately. I am sorting it out now.

Also of note is that GCS Johnson, who had been removing the Metrocars for scrap, have collapsed into administration. As such a new haulage firm needs to be selected so it’s unclear now what timescale we’re looking at for the remaining disposals or if they’ll possibly work slightly differently from the previous disposals.

T112 is 4009+4078, replaced a failed 555 earlier.
Thank you for the info, there seems to be a lot of haulage and scrap businesses going to the wall lately.

I'm happy to be wrong.
They did stop running on Sundays for a while, as there were enough 555s to run the service. However, due to the reliability issues affecting the 555 fleet, they seem to have been given a stay of execution and have been seen out more often, including on Sundays. Last week, for example, there were 2 Metrocar sets out on Sunday.

Might be a chance tomorrow
There's a chance, but I suspect it's going to be rather unlikely. In addition to the normal Sunday service, there's also Network Rail engineering work between Pelaw and South Hylton (drainage works at Sunderland), which means that fewer trains will be needed on the Green Line (Airport - South Hylton), as they'll be terminating short at Pelaw.
  • Ordinary weekday: 12 Green + 16 Yellow (28 trains)
  • Ordinary Sunday: 10 Green + 13 Yellow (23)
  • This Sunday: 7 Green + 13 Yellow (20)

According to a TWM staff member 121 & 124 are metrocars today.

121 (which was 4050+78) has been pulled from service and presumably replaced with a 555.
And if the Nexus app is correct, 124 doesn't appear to be running at the moment, so not sure what's happening there.

T124 currently in the depot being prepared for service and is 4035+4068
T121 was 4050+4078 however was pulled due to a knacked cab seat and technical fault according to driver who was driving it when I was on it.

Why do you hate 4009 so much?

Metrocar update - 4th May 2026

Rather unsurprisingly, no Metrocars are out today.

There'll probably be a couple out tomorrow when the normal service resumes. On bank holidays, the metro operates a modified Sunday timetable, so services are less frequent. There's also a service suspension between Pelaw and South Hylton in both directions due to Network Rail engineering work, so fewer trains than usual (even for a bank holiday) are needed on the green line between Airport and Pelaw.

Hopefully the oldies are having a nice rest so that they can last a bit longer.

Metrocar update - 5th May 2026

The Metrocars are back from their rest. According to a very reliable source, there are three Metrocars out on the system today (they're unsure of the TRNs). Thus far, I'm aware of two that are out:

  • T109 (Green) - 4078 + 4050
  • T110 (Green) - 4024 + 4029
  • T121 (Yellow) - 4068 + 4035 per @Tramfan

The remainder of the Green Line is all 555s (T102 is missing due to a "shortage of available trains"), so if there's a third Metrocar set out, it'll be on the Yellow Line. I'm going to be catching T109 so I'll see what Metrocars are on it and report back. Won't be able to see what's on the Yellow Line though: I'll update when I get third-party information about that.

T110 has been pulled at Airport. Not sure why it’s been pulled or whether the Metrocars on it will be re-entering service later.

Replaced with the 555 off T134.
4035+68 were pulled from T121 and are now on T103, the 555 from that withdrawn due to vandalism.

Metrocar update - 7th May 2026

Just the one pair out today. T107 (Green) is 4024 and 4029. T107 was briefly pulled at Regent Centre earlier and returned later on in the day, so it’s unclear whether 4024 and 4029 were originally allocated to the service.

Worth noting that Metrocars were only initially allocated to T102 (Green). T128 (Yellow) was originally 555041, but this unit was pulled at Tynemouth due to being vandalised.

All those CCTV cameras don't seem to deter the vandals.
