Unfortunately the article doesn't explain whether you should leave your house if it catches fire

The fact that they feel a need to actually state this shows just how brainwashed people have become.

And best of luck with enforcing physical distancing if a load of unfortunate people get flooded out and end up in a sports hall for a few days.
As someone who has a flood response duty role at work, I couldn't agree more about the challenges flooding or any other disaster has. So far in the UK we've been extremely lucky not to have had a major(ish) disaster of another kind on top of Covid, but if we do get flooding in the remainder of this winter (and from my work in Water Resources the conditions are saturated right now, so it won't take much), you just cannot socially distance if you are to respond effectively. This will ultimately lead to a rise in Covid infections (and other infections maybe), just like Beirut saw a spike after the explosion, but at the time of such a disaster Covid was/is not the priority.

Furthermore we're going to have a very difficult dilemma with the overall response if restrictions are imposed/tightened simply because of the right response to flooding causing an infection spike, not least if wholly unacceptable blame is thrown about towards who/what caused the infections to spike.

I haven't followed the infection patterns in areas affected by the Atlantic Hurricane Season this year (which was the most active on record), but I do know concerns about Covid and the response were common and thought through.

I wonder how long that will last then gun for them again, its strange come to think of it as guess who else has jumped the bandwagon today on a new strain discovered in Glasgow.... Nicola Sturgeon!

Surely it can't be me that finds this a bit of a coincedence, London is a hot spot (supposedly for the new strain) and suddenly today - Glasgow has one, what did COVID do just decide to mutate over the weekend and be at 2 places at once?

Of course I forgot -- prepare for media onslaught of fear once more! I can't decide if this is becoming more like Corrie or any of the other soaps out there but politicians and media alike love this, as I said before this will be played out for so long and the public will turn on them all (but I doubt they see that train coming).
I thought for a second when reading quickly, you were suggesting there was a Nicola Sturgeon virus !
Symptoms: a continuous earache, with an overwhelming inclination to do things just a teeny bit different to your neighbours?

If the fire started when attempting to cook a substantial meal, everything will be fine...

It's almost too easy to apply George Orwell quotes to the current situation, but this one seems particularly pertinent:

“Power is in tearing human minds to pieces and putting them together again in new shapes of your own choosing.” (George Orwell, 1984).

Like I say, almost too easy, but it's scary how his visions have been realized!
If he were alive today, he'd be on TV after every BoJo press conference tapping his head and saying "I told you so!"

Sure we're not living out 1984 currently?
Not yet, but we are halfway through the introduction....

The Sun newspaper’s website has some video of a small number of protestors in London yesterday, protesting about the move to Tier 3.
Interesting to note the comments under the video. A couple of months ago, it would have been full of ‘they’re killing people’ comments...

She has become more of an Agony Aunt apart from she doesn't solve the problems, she lays blame elsewhere...

Interestingly the BBC News' focus in the last couple of days has shifted noticeably towards the impact long running T3 & other higher restrictions have been having on businesses and individuals. Has the move into T3 for London and some of the Home Counties got the Beeb's bosses moving more into dissenter mode?

Yet have they forgotten about the original lockdown and it’s impact? Or are media having selective memories here?

I think they are just starting to reflect the growing sense of frustration and despair so many people having been feeling for months.

Found another Kay Burley situation except arguably worse. I'll put it in this thread since he's a YouTuber (arguably a form of media) and has been spreading info for months about COVID.

Don't know if anyone has heard of the New York YouTuber "Doctor Mike" who has been pushing for masks for considerable time on his channel and comes across as someone who wants COVID to really be taken seriously.

And then this happened:

‘Hot Doctor’ Mikhail Varshavski has come under withering fire from his millions of followers after pictures of him ignoring his own advice by partying maskless on his birthday emerged.

Varshavski — who has found Internet fame as Dr. Mike — has been in the vanguard of stressing the importance of wearing a mask to stop the spread of Covid-19.

But he appeared to break all his own rules when it came to his 31st birthday party, for which he flew from New York to Miami on November 12 to celebrate.
I'm not somebody who judges individuals based on what they do regarding COVID (only those in government or other positions of power), however this really angers me. People like him create scaremongering, want restrictions placed on our society which cause great stress to people and damage economies, all for him to decide he's above these rules/guidelines and they don't actually matter when he wants to do something for his birthday. Yet another example of certain people being in an ivory tower, happy to create issues for others but not themselves. This is worse than Burley - at least she's not actually a medical expert. And the moron couldn't even post an apology video on his main channel, instead goes on his side channel with 1/10th the number of subscribers.

So in hindsight since 2020 coming to an end now is the time to show this reflection... where have they been in this? Sleepwalking?

Apologies. You’re correct.
Perhaps I was thinking of ‘People Hold On’ (Coldcut featuring Lisa Stansfield)

Working their way through the Thesaurus looking for as many synonyms to their favourite gloomy phrases. I guess they must have got to the end....

reactions: link below is also quoted in Daily Mail and The Sun (google searched it)

main source: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/16/health/covid-pfizer-vaccine-allergic-reaction.html

UK Sources: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/...gic-reaction-Pfizers-coronavirus-vaccine.html

Two health care workers at the same hospital in Alaska developed concerning reactions just minutes after receiving Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine this week, including one staff member who was to remain hospitalized until Thursday.
The first worker, a middle-aged woman who had no history of allergies, had an anaphylactic reaction that began 10 minutes after receiving the vaccine at Bartlett Regional Hospital in Juneau on Tuesday, a hospital official said. She experienced a rash over her face and torso, shortness of breath and an elevated heart rate.
The second worker received his shot on Wednesday and developed eye puffiness, lightheadedness and a scratchy throat 10 minutes after the injection, the hospital said in a statement. He was taken to the emergency room and treated with epinephrine, Pepcid and Benadryl, although the hospital said the reaction was not considered anaphylaxis. The worker was back to normal within an hour and released.

It states that the first worker:

Dr. Lindy Jones, the hospital’s emergency department medical director, said the worker was first given a shot of epinephrine, a standard treatment for severe allergic reactions. Her symptoms subsided but then re-emerged, and she was treated with steroids and an epinephrine drip.

When doctors tried to stop the drip, her symptoms re-emerged yet again, so the woman was moved to the intensive care unit, observed throughout the night, then weaned off the drip early Wednesday morning, Dr. Jones said.
Although the Pfizer vaccine was shown to be safe and about 95 percent effective in a clinical trial involving 44,000 participants, the Alaska cases will likely intensify concerns about possible side effects. Experts said the developments may prompt calls for tighter guidelines to ensure that recipients were carefully monitored for adverse reactions.

Well so far in the UK we have had ~130+k vaccinations and, as far as I know, two serious reactions.

1-in-65000, at the top end, serious reactions is far from terrible.

Aah here is one story which does highlight it is fast becoming a more of us and them type of scenario....
As far as I care regardless of party it still seems pretty much that they can do as they please but the public can't..

The home secretary has accused a Tory MP of breaching coronavirus rules by attending a Christmas dinner for 27 guests.

Tobias Ellwood, chairman of the Commons Defence Committee, gave a speech at the event in the Cavalry and Guards Club in Piccadilly hours before London entered Tier 3.

The MP for Bournemouth East is understood to have believed that the event, described on the organisers’ website as a “Christmas party”, was compliant with the rules. He is expected to issue a formal statement later.

The politicians are going up in the world in rule breaking but still expect a slapped wrist but if its Joe Public, the police/media would be on you like a pack of wolves.

Just to add: https://news.sky.com/story/covid-19...ending-christmas-party-for-27-guests-12165553

Tier 2 guidance issued by the government says that "gatherings for work purposes are only allowed where they are reasonably necessary".

Mr Ellwood, who is MP for Bournemouth East in Dorset, said the event was a "business reception/dinner" in which he "gleaned extremely useful intelligence" about the issues on the ground in the Middle East.

He attended the event a day after saying in the House of Commons that allowing families to meet over Christmas "could be very dangerous indeed", and suggesting that easing the rules over the festive period could lead to a "third wave" of the virus.

"The event took place at the respected Cavalry and Guards Club under strict COVID compliant conditions," Mr Ellwood said in a statement after his attendance was reported by the Daily Mail.

Still though 27 guests, but be for meeting up with friends or other family members for Christmas or anytime of the year its a big no, I wonder if at this gathering did he have the windows open?

Do we consider YouTube to be media?
Hope I’m not breaching forum rules with this post, but God knows we could do with some humour right now...

Not even that. We've had two minor reactions. It's standard practice to hang on to patients for a few minutes when you give an injection of anything, and there will be small anaphylactoid reactions in a few. I don't know why people are expecting any different from this.

The only thing to learn is that the vaccination centres must be set up to allow this.

I agree; I had a terrible reaction to a mystery food stuff whilst on holiday.

After 10 mins I knew something was up, by 20 I could feel it working through my body and by 30 mins I was in a mess.

I had to drive in the middle of this which wasn't great; it took me 3 hours or so to recover and the next day I was good to go.

So yes we need a holding zone or process or strong advice handed out on release

Or if you are a high profile news reporter then 3 to 6 months paid holiday.

Currently one of the top UK headline stories on the BBC:

Covid patient urges people not to visit family at Christmas

A father who is in hospital with coronavirus has urged people not to visit relatives over Christmas.

I'm not entirely sure how the personal opinion of a random person is one of the main UK news stories but I'm sure the Beeb knows best.
