Well I was wrong. Thanks for correcting me. All the ones I saw were singles hence why I thought all were singles.

Oddest thing I ever saw post 2020 with XC was 2 HSTs on services to Manchester on two separate dates.

It was a nice change from the voyagers that are normally on services to Manchester.

No problem. I think the double Voyagers to the south coast were a bit of an oddity, and if your working hours didn’t match up you’d likely go all year without ever seeing one. I’m not sure if there was a particular need to double that service into and out of Bournemouth at the time they ran, so I always assumed it was about getting the stock positioned for the Reading to Manchester leg in the evening peak. A criticism I’ve made before is that XC never highlighted any longer than normal trains, including HSTs, in the paper timetables, so there was nothing to guide passengers to the higher capacity trains anyway.

My working hours never matched up for seeing double voyagers, by the time they would have gone through my station I was already at home.

Don't see much changes to scotrail services nor scottish TPE services and LNER (Sunderland service seems to be reinstated unless it was reinstated back in December)

Avanti West Coast looks as if its got an hourly Chester to Euston service (1 train to/from Wrexham and handful run to/from holyhead) and liverpool services have got a stop added at liverpool south Parkway. Blackpool seem to be six trains at day, the first run south calls at poulton le fylde and kirkham and wesham, rest run non stop to preston

XC very poor north of Edinburgh. The weekday evening runs to Aberdeen appear to be terminated at Edinburgh, whilst on sundays no XC trains to Aberdeen (all start/terminate at dundee). They are 4 trains a day to Glasgow Central.

Yup the base timetable is in because it was developed way before DfT started challenging operators to reduce cost. Some of like GWR will be about sweating the remaining fleet but potentially some services may disappear or become Q paths. It will be small number of trains in the grander scheme of things of course.
What proportion of the turbo and 80x fleets will need to be working daily by May? Is there the possibility of scrapping some Chiltern turbos for parts given the number waiting for spares.

Why would there be a route closure? The line is heavily used by freight (circa 16 paths a day) over it.

There's no stations on the route either that aren't served as part of another service so I'm not entirely sure what there is to close?

As others have pointed out, this would seem like easy pickings for charter/open access to take over. How much business a pure charter operation could mop up I don't know - if LSL/WCR could operate as an open access operator and get onto the journey planners/sell walk up fares etc I would imagine this service would be relatively viable.

It falls into the same area as Chiltern withdrawing the West Ealing - West Ruislip service at why they need to waste money on running a replacement bus (even if any genuine passengers can use GWR to Greenford for Central line to Ruislip).

With regards to Southern service between Reigate and London Victoria, is the wait at Redhill (4 minutes, can be longer) really that necessary?
I suppose it is sort of like the Guildford waits but I guess it will all have to wait for another timetable change, not the May one.

Yes it’s to allow the attachment of additional vehicles at certain times of day, similar to all up Weymouth to Waterloo services having this time in the base schedule at Bournemouth.

Yes, I thought as much, but doesn't attaching and splitting happen throughout the day at Bournemouth so the time allowance is needed, whereas Redhill not all trains split and attach throughout the day, only in the peaks?

Only day a double could have been on an early New Street to Manchester would have been a Sunday.

As the early New Street services to Manchester Monday to Saturday were always singles pre-2020.

As far as I remember all the Manchester to Bournemouth services Monday-Saturday pre-2020 were singles as well.
I believe it was the 0727 or 0827 Manchester - Bounmouth and return was a double set on Fridays.

I'm not suggesting that the line will be physically closed. It's clear it will remain open for freight and the occasional railtour. But passenger services shouldn't be withdrawn unless they are also instigating closure proceedings. There is no way they could possibly undertake that very slow and arduous process by the May TT change so this looks like another example of a 'closure by stealth' where the proper process is just ignored.

That is a bit drastic. Using a few as parts donors for a while is a better solution.

Yes, the units can't stay longer at Reigate as they would be in the way of a North Downs Line service. They have a standard path north from Redhill.

I think there is also services occupying Platforms 2 and 0 (GWR Gatwick Reverser) perhaps preventing the train leaving earlier?

Southern have added another service to Hemel Hempstead (2M97 and back to east croydon as 2O75). Thats interesting since they will get rid of the 313s.

Not really, the base TT is in because it was developed before DfT ministers took decisions on the matter. It’s all been in development for months (more than a year in many cases).

Anyway, some TOCs have their May Business Plan changes in the new base as now published. Some are being processed now and will appear over the next few weeks. Some have (still) yet to be decided. If they happen, they will appear rather nearer to May.

I've just noticed a new service from Streatham Hill - London Bridge via Tulse Hill has emerged (2W94 and 2W96)

Do you know, and perhaps more importantly are you able to tell us which TOCs are in each camp?

Less than that, just one in each direction Mon-Fri if you don't count the morning one from Edinburgh.
I'm all I favour of cutting XC services beyond Edinburgh. Since the fleet is based in Edinburgh, this will save a lot of services which are essentially just positional in the early morning or late evening.

says that the early service from Mallaig to FW will arrive in the morning peak. At present it arrives much earlier, which would suggest a retiming, but I can't see it on RTT yet

Doing that at the cost of disconnecting Glasgow (and more importantly, Motherwell) from East Lothian and the North East of England though. They really should extend those TPE sets over to Glasgow instead then, and run them to either York or Liverpool. The TPE crew are Glasgow based so it would make sense.

I agree about the TPE services starting from Glasgow, but they will have to terminate at Newcastle because, running semifast after Edinburgh the next LNER service will catch them up there, and I don't think it's possible for them to be passed.

Good to see the Torbay branch regains its two direct services daily between Manchester & Paignton & vice versa. The incoming early morning arrival however starts Bristol rather than Birmingham although the evening return service does make it back to the West Midlands.

I’ll second that! I had briefly mentioned this way back upthread but the main focus seemed to be on the south coast services, a great surprise - was beginning to think we would never see it return, at least not in the near future.

First post here after years of lurking.

I've just looked at the May Chiltern timetable on Realtimetrains. Am I right in assessing that they've cut 1tph from Marylebone to busy stations like Beaconsfield and Gerrards Cross, and making all trains to those stations much slower stopping services?

If so, doesn't that feel pretty stupid, given the number of people who embark/disembark there at peak times?

In the peak though on a practical level it's 2tph today - the 1721 and 1821 is followed by a stopper 3 minutes later, I doubt they have many ex MYB passengers on board by the time they get there. So it makes sense to rationalise the calls

Beaconsfield (and some other places on that line) are strange in that it gets a faster service off peak than during the peak but with a 2 track railway and limited passing options it makes best use of capacity

I see your location is Haddenham, that is one place that does actually retain an almost useful third service in the evening peak northbound - 07,15 and 45 past the hr departures + 1707 and 1807 on the hauled sets and all services 100mph paths so 168 operated.
