Does anyone know when GWR will be publishing their timetables? The current times for 21 May from Gomshall look nonsensical (only one train to Guildford between 06.00 and 09.15) . http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/advanced/GOM/2018/05/21/0736?stp=WVS&show=all&order=wtt

From the NRE timetable changes information page @ http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_disruptions/184755.aspx:
Saturday 19 to Friday 25 May

We can confirm that the timetable for this week will be running as shown in the journey planner. To view these services, you can use the National Rail Enquiries Journey Planner
Which would seem to indicate that, unless GWR are able to say otherwise, the information currently in journey planners for that week - and so also the link that you have given from RTT - is correct. The following week, says that it still subject to change and that they expect to confirm the timetable tomorrow (17th April).

The train at 0722 from Gomshall shouldn't be there. Someone with four very big hands would need to lift a Southern train off the tracks at Reigate for the GWR service to be able to call at Reigate at 0702 as platform 2 is occupied 0652-0706 and that isn't enough time for the Southern train to shunt to the siding and back.

As explained in the other thread about the North Downs line, it seems that the timetable is still being worked on. Given an arrival from Reading at Redhill just before 0730, it would be expected for there to be a train from Gomshall to Guildford at around 0750. The alternative is for this arrival to Redhill to run to Gatwick for the 0800 to Reading and for there to be no 0634 Reading to Gatwick / 0730ish Redhill to Reading. 0730 at Redhill is a complicated time.

Conjecture says that the reason the Reigate departure times for Victoria are 0736 / 0804 / 0836 is because GWR were going to put the stopper on the other side of the hour but not now.

Just had a closer look at the new Chase line timetable. The line speed increase now means WMT can run a half hourly service with 4 units and without skipping any stops north of Walsall.
I thought that was very impressive. The stations between Walsall and Cannock gain stops on the Saturday trains that currently don't call.

All becoming half an hourly calling all stations from Walsall to Rugeley. Monday-Saturday half an hourly. Hourly on Sunday’s.

Is there a particular need for Class 9 headcodes, though? They appear to be popping up everywhere now!

Its a strange one.

If it wasnt for the VTWC services at Edinburgh already I'd think it was in preparation for these services being extended up the ECML but 9Mxx going both ways out of Edinburgh does not seem helpful at all!

Whilst not going to the planned half hourly service (and in fairness to Northern they said that was one of the improvements put back) it is a bit harsh to say there are no extra services. There 3 extra service each way to plug gaps

Carlisle to Newcastle goes from 15tpd to 18tpd with extra morning services and late evening
Likewise Newcastle to Carlisle goes from 15tpd to 18tpd with extra trains in the morning, early and late evening
..

Very useful additional trains or changes - allowing arrivals in both Newcastle and Carlisle at 08.36 or 37.
I'd imagine both trains will be very popular - especially the one to Carlisle which plugs an otherwise near two-hour gap at a vital time.

First time I've been aware of this. Wikipedia says (for class 9)
"International Eurostar passenger train; other passenger train if specially authorised"

Not very informative! So what's the deal? What makes a class 9 different to a class 1?
Class 9s are fairly widespread already to be fair, nowadays it’s just another way of meaning ‘significantly different’. LO ELL services, Thameslink GN, XC, VTWC Scotland via Brum, even minor platform restrictions at Salisbury, have all been treated to class 9 at some point past, present or future.

Virgin Trains report that a new 0710 Crewe to Manchester Piccadilly service will run, and the 1943 London Euston to Crewe via Birmingham New Street will be diverted and call additionally at Stoke-on-Trent. I think this will be the only Virgin Trains service from Stafford to Stoke-on-Trent, to go with the one service the other way.

Monday to Fridays only. Saturday it doesn’t run and Sunday it’s exteneded to Preston.

They not just report it - they are in the timetable pdfs on their website.

Surprised that they've pretty much abandoned the through Scotrail trains, except one very early westbound and one very late eastbound. Seems more hasssle than it is worth to keep the agreements goimg for such a useless service.

There's been some very recent tweaks then, because earlier this month there was definitely a Scotrail service to Morpeth showing in RTT, we mentioned it in the other Northern timetable thread: https://www.railforums.co.uk/thread...plan-for-may-2018.147558/page-53#post-3404650

Yes, I read a bit further, thought better of my post, and quickly deleted it, but too late :D

Looking at my commute from next month, can anyone confirm if the 07:36 Ashford to St Pancras will be made up of a six car that's arrived at 07:19 from STP and another six that arrives at 07:34 from Margate? Realtime trains show the 07:19 booked for P5 but no departures and the 07:34 then arrives at P5 too.

TIA

Simon

I definitely don't believe that. They are adding Macclesfield to a huge number of daily trains, which extends the journey time.
Plus for the bournemouth trains the xx27 off MAN leaves SOT at xx07 when calling at MAC, and the same when calling at CNG so doesn't make a difference to times, don't need off peak, but peak needs improving, don't care what stops, anything will do!

and XC are adding MAC to ALL (except the 1827 SSuX which is a CNG and the 1727 SO also CNG)) Everything else calls (except the 1 VT/hr)

I (along with MANY others) am not impressed with Congleton's timetable change, 0732 (busiest morning MAN train) moved to 0712 useless because of the 0657 XC, then an hour gap to 0812.
Evening peak is worse, From MAN-CNG;
Current:
1646 MAN-SOT NT
1710 DGT-SOT NT
1746 MAN-SOT NT
1827 MAN-BMH XC

After May 20th:
1644 MAN-SOT NT
1721 MAN-MAC NT (What?!?! - 60 people alight that at CNG daily)
1744 MAN-SOT NT
1827 MAN-BMH XC

Congleton now has a better evening peak on a Saturday than a weekday...
Need to stop a train at CNG between 1723 & 1823 but options are limited.

Yes because:

1) They will be very limited stop services
2) Will overtake a class 1 train at Dewsbury (eastbound) and Mirfield (westbound).

Edit: see post below, I'll leave it for context though

Sorry but based purely on what has been posted above I feel you have no right to complain about those evening peak changes (unless I'm missing something) one train has been made 10 minutes later, with a couple of other basically negligible changes. And while everyones pattern is different, I'd argue that represents a small improvement, for anyone that finishes work at 5 getting to the station for 5:10 could be a bit tight, esspecily if where they work is not right by the station. The lose of a through service from Deansgate is worse, but it isn't possible for the many other changes happening across the network to happen while keeping ever other service identical. Trams between Deansgate and Oxford road are very frequent. And people near Oxford road could walk to Piccadilly considering the slightly later departure. Overall I'd say an improvement for people at Piccadilly but a worse service for workers at Oxford road and Deansgate, no I have no idea where the distribution of workers is for people getting on at CNG. But I'd still say the changes are minimal and alot less worse then your making them out to be.

The service being moved 20 minutes earlier in the morning will mean and early departure and get up for many people, which will understandably annoy them, but again, if your criteria for adding improvements to the rail network is never changing any of the current services then you aren't going to get very far.

The poster's main complaint is that the 1710 Deansgate to Stoke turns to a 1721 Picc-Macclesfield- ie removing a peak service from Congleton.

I believe that what agbrs_jack is trying to draw attention to is that there are currently direct trains from Manchester to Congleton at:
1646
1718
1746

From the new timetable, direct trains are at:
1644
1744

Plainly not an improvement! Customers for Congleton could take the 1715 service to Stoke-on-Trent, and then the 1756 back to Congleton, which would result in them arriving there 15 minutes earlier than if they caught the 1744 from Manchester Piccadilly. For a single journey, this would cost a whopping £7.80 extra, or a 77% increase.

Ahh, thanks. My geography of that area isn't great, and the way the previous post was formatted made me think all of them will stoped at Congleton. Fair enough.

ah prey, my mistake, should’ve pointed out that MAC is north of CNG therefore making the service useless.

Will also mention that this cut is NOT due to the delay and would’ve happened regardless (confirmed By Northern) as the 1721 MAN-MAC is supposed to be a BPN-MAC.
