Surely the Exeter local services are more suited to Pacers than 158s?

If they need extra units in the summer, then that's a seperate issue, but a three car 158 sounds overkill for the routes you've mentioned for most of the year. Bear in mind that the 158s are better for top speed, but you want something with better acceleration for services that stop at every single stop, like the ones you're talking about.

Pacers aren't even suitable for Devon services, they don't have enough seats, acceleration is rubbish, too few doors, and then we have the problem of some of the atrocious track quality on the Barnstaple and Exmouth branches. Conner is right, 158s should stay with FGW on Great Malvern - Weymouth services, not on Northern rail local stopping services.
