Understood that the damage is incredibly extensive - hence the 2 nights of repair work. Possibly affecting the neutral section at North Wembley ?

A previous huge dewirement in 1981 in the Hemel Area when all lines were ripped down by a badly secured container , is about the nearest / worst incident I can recall. That took 48 hours to sort out.

I didn't check LDB or twitter.

But were there still residual delays today (Saturday) on the WCML, after yesterday's disruption.

Has this been the worst de-wirement incident in at least the last year?

Oh dear, NRE spouting nonsense again. The WCML through the affected area does need to be closed until approximately midday tomorrow. No trains in or out of Euston. Both LM and VT internal info concurs on this one.

EMT are aware of the situation tomorrow, including with short notice changes affecting crew commuting to work (who have been advised accordingly of the block). I can’t see it being fun to travel north out of London tomorrow...

Put it this way - about 300 cancellations would estimate - (and no doubt rerouting of freight via other lines) - and not being party to the actual delay mins - I would estimate well over 20,000 delay mins from my previous experience on this section. Service reductions to allow for what can pass on a 2 track railway from Euston to Bourne End knocks a huge hole in the planned timetable.

Maybe - because it is so close to London - knocked out 50% of main line capacity - and affected the Oveground and Bakerloo lines. The "Retfords" of this world are bad enough - the killer is the 48 hours impact...

Is it just a series of dreadful anecdotal news, but the railways seem to be enduring more than their fair share of bad luck recently? I feel very sorry for the folk out there in the ballast or platforms, whether it's derailments, dewirements, or dealing with assaults, or picking up parts of dead bodies.
My best wishes to all who are at the sharp end, including also the electrification teams, trying to recoup lost time.

Radio has just said no trains in or out of Euston tomorrow morning passengers warned of major disruption

Sunday mornings are quiet. There won’t be “chaos”.

Indeed, it once was the case that the earliest you could reach MK from Euston or vice versa on a Sunday morning was about 0900.

It is however a bit rubbish that a RRB timetable has not been put up for tomorrow to allow people to plan, even if it’s just one an hour all stops which would probably adequately reflect demand.

I thought 5M11 was going to cause some issues when I saw last night no coach had been knocked off. 2x 92s + 1x 90 + Load 16 doesn't really fit too well in P15 I don't think...!

Wouldn't it have just about fitted in platform 1?

I'm heading back up North tomorrow, I came down from Manchester on Friday evening...

Thankfully (I've never said-or done-this before!) By air rather than by rail!:D

I'm on the 0815 Marylebone - Birmingham Snow Hill. It has 3 coaches and it is full and standing already with 8 minutes to go.

OTT is not showing ANY trains moving south of Birmingham - is that right?

Might have to change our plans for this afternoon ..... :frown:

Some trains are making it as far as MK, but you're probably going to be out of luck Hemel-London until the lines reopen :(

Looks like no RRBs of any kind for LM which is a bit poor. Maybe they couldn’t get them at that notice, but they usually say so if that’s the case so it looks like they didn’t even try.

The Daily Star website is saying that the damaged section is over 500m long!

https://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/la...euston-delays-closures-transport-news-updates

Over 500m of wires were damaged near Wembley yesterday and engineers are frantically repairing them to get trains back up and running.

A spokesman for Network Rail said: "At around 3.30 Friday afternoon the overhead wires that provide electrical power to trains were damaged in the Wembley area.

"Over 500m of overhead wires now need replacing and our engineers have been on site since the incident occurred, working to repair the damage as quickly as possible."

London Overground have replacement buses from Watford Jn to Harrow-on-the-Hill from 09:15 approx, Virgin are running a couple of trains to Milton Keynes Central. London Midland are running nothing south of Northampton, no trains, no busses, nothing! Could they not have run as far as Hemel Hempstead as with planned closures? And of course if Watford Jn North had been reinstated, they (and Virgin) could have got to Watford Jn.

Looking at OTT, it looks like all lines are blocked (slows BTET) south of Bushey and the fast closed for Engineering Work through to Hanslope Jn. 1B01 left Rugby via Weedon to MKC.

It's the NRE website that says 500M of cable to be replaced.

I want to travel today on the WCML. My intention is to buy an off peak open return with a NSE.

I shall now wait til 6:00pm, because of the current situation.

However, by 6:00pm if it's still "bad", will I be allowed to travel on Monday morning instead, during the peak morning period with a NSE card?

Obviously, on a Sunday there are no time restrictions (or minimum fare restrictions).

However, will barrier staff let me through on a Monday morning?!

Only tickets vaild for today can be used tomorrow so if you haven't already bought one I doubt it

Customers are advised NOT TO TRAVEL. No London Midland and Virgin Trains services will be able to depart or arrive at London Euston until at least 12:00. Tickets valid for travel Sunday 3 December will be accepted on Monday.

If you must travel, please check the Journey Planner to make sure the line has reopened before starting your journey. Trains that do run are expected to be busier than normal, so travel should be considered for later in the day or on Monday where possible.

The wiring train was out overnight running out the new stuff. Neutral section requires to be cut in too. Big job!

This isn't criticism, certainly not, but why is this event proving so intractable? Was a lot of damage done, difficult location or what?

(Cross posted with the above, but it still seems a huge job - 48 hours on, they usually do better)

what are the chances of normal service resuming on Monday morning, given crew and stock displacement?
