Are there any maintenance workers in here? I’ve literally gone 300 pages deep back to 2015 looking at every thread on what they do and what to expect at the interview but every thread seems about wanna be drivers and guards.

So I’ve been selected to go towards the next stage of being a signal technician which is the online test.
mot provides a link to do some practice tests but doesn’t say which ones to practice.
Any pointers on where to start please.

thanks for the help, I’ll get practicing on those tests.
For the mechanical test time just goes so quick I think it’s 15 questions in 20 minutes so you haven’t got long. So it’s just practice practice practice and keep a eye on the time

Just sat the tests. One was about me with a personality test. The other was just random questions and multiple choice answers.
8 mins and 40 questions.
I managed 25. I tried so hard but the clock just ticks away.

Yeah time does fly. That’s unusual signalling technician online test is usually mechanical. Well done as it’s made to be hard so good luck

So I’ve got a pass on the test which will stand for 12 months.
Is the next stage a call to interview?
At this stage has anyone actually likely to have looked at my cv or is it all computer automated?

Unfortunately, passing the test doesn’t mean you get an interview! The next stage is normally the hiring managers desk, that’s the person who will decide if you will get an interview

That's true for p-way, but it sounds like car.crash has applied for S&T so won't be doing those things.
Maintenance for S&T will be a mix of mechanical and electrical work. The precise details will depend on the equipment used in that particular area and how modern it is, but there will always be some element of both. On a daily basis you'll be checking that everything is operating correctly, whether that's via measuring voltage and frequencies or carrying out visual inspections.
In some areas you'll also be expecting to carry out fault finding and rectification on the same equipment.

Sounds great. Just hope I get called for a interview. I’m dead keen on a career change after 20 years in the same job.
