Nothing is ever as trivial as it seems. If it was that trivial it would not have been delayed numerous times.

I do think a lot will change when the government changes.

But putting that to one side, how TfL are going to spin the entire network being covered when even after this is all done many outdoor sections are poorly served, will be interesting.

I didn't say it would be on their radar, just that lots of things get paused/delayed/not announced during an election.

So sounds like a fair bit of Northern and Central will be getting coverage immintently. I also wonder if this will include the Elizabeth line, given that tweet from TfL saying it was coming 'soon' after opening.

Regardless, the article does confirm the latest EL could get phone coverage would be end of 2024 (which is the first time I've seen it actually written!). I would assume a lot sooner, but great to know.

Although slightly off topic I cannot understand for the life of me how the EL management think it is sensible to show TFL Wifi on the trains and let you connect to it and give a message that it is all connected and you may now use it which is as we all know is complete and utter nonsense.
A classic silo of the team responsible for authentication messages not talking to the team responsible for delivering the end product perhaps
Really strangely if the wifi is connected to TFL Wifi my iphone it will work in stations that have 4G even if data is switched off on the iphone which is not expected behaviour

Surely it works fine in the open sections of the line? Many people may still want to connect via Wi-Fi to save their data allowances or hook up things like laptops, tablets, Kindles etc.

Sure it is good in the open but my issue is that if you connect at Bond street it tells you that you can use it there
I don't think it is particularly helpful if this actually means it will not be usable until the train reaches Stratford

This is TfL's announcement from yesterday about that "Royal Oak - Liverpool Street" milestone. As well as the EL news, it has some rather sneakily worded progress news on the rest of the network -

As well as all eight 'underground' Elizabeth line stations, across London, 36 Tube stations have started to offer mobile coverage to customers in the ticket halls, platform areas and interchanges, with many more, including the southern end of the Northern line, expected to go live by the end of the summer.

There is also this about how the work is being done:

Around 500 people are working overnight across the Tube network to install mobile equipment, with all works needed to be tidied away before the network opens for customers every morning. Once fully delivered, more than 2,000 kilometres of cabling as well as thousands of radios are expected to be installed within tunnels and stations, all of which will be fitted outside of operational hours.

Are there issues with EE wifi at the moment? Yesterday at Mile End connected to "EE-WifiAuto" was fine with full signal but no data could be transferred. Happened in the afternoon and the late evening too.

I see this all the time on O2. It's a very weird problem.

The data doesn't flow and then very quickly flows as long as I stay on the same website. If I go to another it's slow again. It's almost like it's a very odd QoS system.

Signal has been extended southwards on the Victoria line at least as far as Oxford Circus station (maybe further but that’s as far as I went to / from). Still nothing on Vodafone yet.

From travel today I can confirm it works on O2 between Euston and Green Park. My phone showed some signal between Euston and King's Cross as well but it wasn't very functional.

This morning heading westbound on the El from Whitechapel I had one bar of 5G on EE at the platform and then and for approx half way to Liverpool Street I couldn’t download anything at all. Then my phone disconnected and reconnected to the network, I got one bar of 5G but I began to be able to use data and then as we rolled into LST I got a full fast signal.

So there are still some teething problems at least for this user!

Honestly I doubt you even had any signal in the tunnels. Phones will often remain showing as if they have coverage for a while after they lose it, mainly to not have to reconnect to the network entirely if you just go through a short tunnel or something.

There's nothing in the tunnels from Whitechapel to about 100/200 yards outside the station platforms. I've been able to stream audio from that point to and from Liverpool Street.

It's actually been helpful to know when it cuts out, so I know we're really close into Whitechapel.

No my YouTube streaming definitely eventually kicked in when I was in the tunnel. It’s just a tunnel section adjacent to the Whitechapel platforms that seems to have a problem.

I've noticed that the TfL page now says 80% of coverage will be completed by the end of 2025, whereas before it was the end of 2024. Usual TfL moving the goalposts.....

First time on Elizabeth Line since tunnel coverage was turned on and nice to see 300 meg on EE. Not as high as I've seen on the Jubilee line, but frankly it's ample.

Latency is really low too.

I quite like this as it means all the irritating people who have been playing their videos out loud tend to stop at this point, and in my experince it’s rare they start again.

I can't say I've noticed anyone using it to play videos out loud. I think the track noise would prevent them being able to hear anything without noise-cancelling headphones!

Not as far as i know, they seem to be doing the deep level lines first though

There's nothing explicitly stating that they won't be included, but there are somewhat regular spots in the cut-and-cover sections of the SSR that provide you with (admittedly a weak) phone service anyway, Hence why they're probably not the best thing to prioritize.
