LU/Elizabeth Line 4G update

If you use nPerf instead, it'll accurately tell you if you're connected to 4G or 5G. As another Samsung user, the indicator on my handset is frankly rubbish for accurately telling you if you're using 4G/4G+ or 5G.

I recall at the very beginning of the rollout, O2 didn't get activated for weeks/months even after all the others had started. So I wonder why they've now gone first on the Victoria Line.

Either way, I've been very happy with O2 on the Central Line, I've had speeds of 600 and 700Mb consistently on the platforms.

It's outrageous really. That's well over 10 times what I get at home with a wired connection

Why is that outrageous, though? It's a closed environment with very little possibility for interference that you might have above ground in the open. It's almost a perfect example of what is technically possible for mobile networks!

When did this change? Yesterday O2 was very much not working at Whitechapel (and also not usable for data at Farringdon - although TCR and Liv St were fine.)

It's very common for one network to go live before others, or lag behind the pack in this rollout.

O2 not working isn't indicative of every operator not working. Likewise, EE working isn't indicative that O2 is behind the rest in going live.

I assume that it's outrageous that a faster connection isn't available at home, not that there's a fast connection on the Tube.

Yeah O2 gets a hard hearing on the internet and generally but I've been happy with them in London and across the UK - but I accept most people don't seem to share my experience.

According to EE's community forum, the plan was to switch it on at the end of last week at Whitechapel, Canary Wharf and Woolwich.

Having now delivered coverage at all Elizabeth line stations, we are focused on delivering the tunnels between the Royal Oak portal and Whitechapel by the end of June. At Whitechapel the line splits into two branches and we are planning to deliver all tunnels between Whitechapel and the Pudding Lane and Plumstead portals by the end of the Summer 2024.

l noticed yesterday that signal on the Victoria line (at least on o2; it’s still not avaliable on Vodafone) now comes on a few seconds after you leave Oxford Circus on the Northbound, and similarly is still avaliable after leaving Warren St heading Southbound.

There seem to be quite a few weekend closures of EL core just at the moment with the fairly generic reason given as maintenance, I can only assume this is part of it. Although I hope they're taking advantage to do some lift and escalator servicing and repairs whilst they're at it as reliability does seem to be a problem just at the moment

Outrageous as in unbelievable, amazing. It’s very impressive technology.

On the Northern line, this evening I've for the first time ever (speaking personally...) had 4G signal in the tunnel between Archway and Highgate station, northbound, as well as on the platform of Highgate station itself. This was on O2 (Giffgaff, to be precise). I specifically noticed as I had become used to the signal dropping off instantly after leaving Archway northbound in the last few months...

The 4G works happen overnight. The core weekend closures were for the train software upgrades.

I definitely noticed it was on in the eastbound tunnel from Paddington on Saturday. They also appear to have fixed (at least partially) the bandwidth and connectivity issues with O2 in some of the core stations.

Anything from Whitechapel eastwards is still a dead zone in tunnel, though.

I noticed 5G in the El tunnels from LST to Whitechapel yesterday and then the return this morning. There was a small dropout as we arrived at Whitechapel heading east though.
