Its not a requirement to tape off seats or tell people where to sit, in fact some of those that have done it have started to remove it as it often causes more trouble than its worth.

It might suit other countries but the UK market is far too stubborn. People should just social distance.

Yes but that’s the passengers own fault. It’s their choice to sit there. They shouldn’t need anything covered over the seat to remind them... they’d probably take no notice even if there was.

For almost four months we’ve been bombarded with messages from the government on tv, radio, newspapers, billboards etc. so no one can say they haven’t heard the message. If they still choose to sit that close together then that’s their prerogative.

Not sure what the obsession is over taping off seats. Yes First decided to do that but it doesn’t mean all other companies have too. The argument now is that with more and more services returning to near normal levels there’s less likelihood seats will need to be covered over anyway.

Yes its a bit late in the game now.

I have not been on a bus since this pandemic started, but I do think buses should have hand sanitizer at the doors (if they have done this, brilliant), which would be more useful as people tend to hold on to the stanchions and press the bell, over seat blocking. However, people need to also take responsibility for their own actions and doings.

Lothian said on their website they had seat coverings on order, no sign of them yet. I was beside a 26 at some lights yesterday about midday and everyone appeared to be sitting window seat, alone, but every row I could see on the bottom deck was filled.

Not seat coverings (I don't think), vinyls with the updated guidance etc have been fitted though.

Thought I’d make a separate thread for this.

First Glasgow have a few services which are mainly motorway based for example the X1, X3, X8, X11 and the 500. FIG use a variety of different vehicles on motorway work but mainly B9TLs were used and now E400MMCs. Both of these vehicle types can also be used on city work. The 500 is of course a special route on its own and naturally First want to keep the contact so they invest in the fleet a lot more/get a higher spec.

It did make me wonder however why First don’t have a separate fleet set aside for their other motorway services. I’m sure I read that the E400City have bigger engines specifically for motorway work so why don’t the others? For a good while the YN08 B9TLs were used exclusively for the X1/X11 services. I’ve also seen B7RLEs, Streetlites and E300s on these routes as they are also based at Blantyre.

I got to thinking what buses are ideal for motorway work? Are buses with bigger wheels more durable or are smaller wheels and lighter vehicles better? Are the E400MMCs the ideal choice for motorway work or are they better suited to city work? What would be your ideal choice?

I spent ages trying to find that information.

However its says " until further notice. " which does not answer my question, So that could mean the 23 getting diverted aswell.

Recently, I was reading a 2015 edition of Buses magazine, and as far as I recall, there is no difference 'under the skin'.

I think that some buses are set up for motorway routes - they may have different gear ratios to allow higher speeds without running at high revs. I also believe that some buses are better suited to urban or inter-urban work. Stagecoach (amongst others) seem to use Scania versions of the E400 due to superior fuel usage for higher speed journeys.

As per above mechanically the E400Citys are identical to the E400MMCs. The only differences are cosmetic on the front/rear.

One's which aren't prone to breakdowns (O/T Stagecoach 19373 I'm looking at you!) - can't be much fun trying to transfer passengers at the side of the motorway, especially if there isn't a hard shoulder.

They are using Covid as an excuse for pushing through all sorts of things e.g. Proposed Temporary Cycle Segregation – Comiston Road.

I've noticed quite a tailback already on Comiston Road from the Greenbank junction towards Morningside, even with current traffic levels, as a result of closing Braids Road - so expect more delay for the 11 and 16.

Yesterday I saw 3 tour buses, did they start early? (2 Sightseeing's and 1 3 Bridge Tour). Was this for a video / photo shoot or just an early start?

I believe they're free at the moment, I thought it was only for staff but posts i've seen on facebook suggests it's free for everyone until Wednesday.
