Lothian Buses and ECB Discussion

Maybe the wouldn't have needed to run lighter if they hadn't CUT 26 by 2 buses per hour.. I'm also surprised the Airlink need to lighter with the lack of any passengers.

I thought it was 4 per hour? there was an every 15 minute frequency today

the changes that have been put in place as of recently wee created before Covid-19 became a problem. The LC services were going to move before Covid, they never moved because of Covid.

Before Covid, the Lothian services were running decent loads and Airlink was running heavy with people getting off along route. The plan here was to move locals off of the Airlink and the 12 in particular so that there was more space on board for passengers going further on those routes. Using the LC services allowed them to do it without upping the frequencies or running part routes to just cover Corstorphine.

Then Covid happened. Once we start increasing frequencies even more and go back to a bit more normality, this change will become more useful.

Some things I noticed:
Onboard an XLB the seats next to the driver had a piece of paper on both seats saying that you can't sit there to help with Social Distancing

Mask signs are starting to appear next to the door telling people they are mandatory

The LothianCountry bus stop at West End had moved to the one that the service 26 serves (previously the one the 100 serves), however the X17 and X38 numbers were also placed on the bus stop, along with the X18, meaning those routes may make a return?

These services will also replace the Lothian X12 to RBS in the mornings (once they go back in)

That still doesn't change the fact the no26 was cut from 8ph to 6ph. As part of the normal changes back in the spring. Also pointed out x12 been replaced by lcb so actully they is less buses running about for all these passengers.

I think the Airlink will be glad to keep it's local passengers for now.

i guess you are right, but many people did complain that some areas where crowded with buses + empty buses

I get why they're doing it but the LC services being slower and picking up more people in the city will just irritate users further out and potentially lead to capacity issues. It's an all to common issue with more frequent interurban routes that serve all stops in cities. Not to veer off topic but a prime example is here where Stagecoach recently revised their Buchan Xpress routes with stopping restrictions to stop city passengers being able to use them as it was causing capacity issues.

You mean a bit like how the East Coast 104 and 124 call at all stops within the city?

to be fair both of those services do have express equivalents (X5/X24 for North Berwick) and (X7 for Haddington) it seems Lothian seem to want to help even out the capacity within the city hence why the 124 must of been rerouted via Portobello

i suppose with LCB’s case bar the 43 they are still all limited stops wothin the city, if they change the services to (217,218,227,228 & 238) for example then they are screwed

The Drum Brae to Maybury section is only 3 extra stops both way which I don’t see as a deal breaker honestly, i guess it’s easier for connections to other Lothian services like (21/200) etc

Yesterday I saw 3 tour buses, did they start early? (2 Sightseeing's and 1 3 Bridge Tour). Was this for a video / photo shoot or just an early start?

They were running for free as a promotional event. They’re back to normal from today.

Which begs the question why don’t Lothian withdraw the X44 (East) already and introduce an X13 through ECB!

The Normal 44 was cut to Wallyford, N44 was cut to City and replaced with N113! It’s only a matter of time.

Run it like the normal X44 to Tranent then in/out via Elphinstone, then the resarch centre and through Ormiston and Pencaitland!

Probably in Phase 4, all Lothian is missing in the city network as far as I’m aware is that along with the 12/X15 and all the night buses

Absolutely. The 113 is torturously slow at peak times.

The only way to get an answer to that would be ask the Lothian commercial team, or the CoE Council if it is a tendered route.

Phase 4 could be weeks, if not months away, remember, but that's a discussion for another thread.

I hope Airlinks get moved from South Davids street. It's an Awful place for the buses to sit. Surly it could be moved around the corner to south side of St Andrews Sq? Council really needs to make Hope St and Queensferry street buses only.

i agree this was a very questionable decision, even George Street (the dome) would of been a more acceptable temporary terminus

cause you know, a service that connects international passengers to the city, bringing people literally to their doorstep isnt what they want. Never mind the people that are waiting for Airlink who might be hungry...

Your right about temporary ending up permanent.
I wouldn’t be surprised if some of these temporary timetables end up permanent.

The 67 is subsidised by the University - it will be up to them to say if they want it resumed.

Any news on when 20 and 63 will be transferred? Even thought people claimed it would have happened already covid or not.
