01/11/86. Technically still the same night but the clock had now clicked well past midnight. 73002 at Victoria with the 03.30 mixed mail / passenger to Dover WD.

Did you ever actually sleep in your youth?! :D I really like these "time-capsule" images, I hadn't realised a mail-plus-passengers railway service operated into the mid 1980s.

08/08/87. An ambitious but reasonably successful attempt at action photography by night. 33110 moves in ready to be attached to the stock forming the 22.10 Waterloo - Salisbury.

29/12/86. 45120 heads the 16.35 service to Nottingham at a wet St. Pancras. The luggage trolly used for supporting the camera showing its limitations, unfortunately.

09/08/87. 73001 after bringing ECS into London Bridge awaits to leave light engine from London Bridge. It is intriguing to think what could be achieved with digital now days, considering its capabilities in low light.

I used to love the ambience of St Pancras, as-was. Strangely, I only took one photo in the old station; a pair of Bed-Pan 317 units; and sadly no Peak in my shot!

I wish I’d taken a bit more notice of it as well. I remember taking a 47 out of there on a peak hour working to Derby one night in the early 1990s and it looked really run down. So glad that I did it now but it summed everything up that was shabby about BR back then!

I did seem to camp out a bit around the stabling / bay platforms at Waterloo. There always seemed to be a selection of 33/50/73's in some combination hanging around to move stock, or attach to work a passenger or parcels. A round up of the ones I have not posted so far.

27/07/85. A typical selection of motive power gathered here - 33026 / 017 and 73131. Parked cars were also a bit of a thing at some London stations - definitely St.P, maybe Victoria as well?

27/07/85. My notes excitedly state this was the first picture taken with the Nikon F3 - I managed to grab it as a loaner camera whilst my FM2 was having a fault fixed. Most teenage boys at the time seemed to have a Lamborghini Countach poster on their walls, I preferred one that had the lines another Italian designer - Giugiaro - applied whilst shaping that camera.

Anyway, here's 50026 backing in to head the 11.10 to Exeter.

18/07/86. 27046 heads the 12.15 service to Dundee at Waverley station. I love the quality of the light on this one.

And not wanting to forget Glasgow;

21/10/86. 37407 feels the love at Queen St. and perhaps has echos the shape of the station canopy.

Having had a few pages to recover, time to subject you to some of my more progressive efforts again...

05/04/85. 31422 pauses at Leicester, it is in charge of the 09.28 Norwich - Birmingham.

02/12/85. Doncaster Station is not necessarily the most inspiring of locations, I tried to make the best of it.

15/09/85. Is there some similarity between a Peak and the St Pancras architecture - I certainly seemed to think so..
