Dover Western Docks was a grand station, but the boat train traffic was drying up and the station finally closed in 1994. I understand it still can be used as a cruise liner terminal and is a venue for other events during the year - I go ice skating there every Christmas. The platforms in front of the arched entrance have gone, but the inside of the station remains largely intact. Train shown is the 11.52 to Victoria.

EMU 1528 is stabled at the south end of Dover WD station.

33011 was found loitering outside Western Docks where there was still quite an extensive goods yard.

10/04/85. IIRC, you had to pay to have your car towed away by a scrappy in the 80's - today they will usually pay you. This resulted in many abandoned vehicles, some of which were pushed over the cliff top for extra measure. This one (Austin Maxi?) had recently appeared.

Thanks for all your positive feedback throughout, it is really appreciated. There is quite a bit of competent but fairly standard stuff I haven't scanned. One option is to group them up around a specific location - I little like I did for last night's Dover based photo's - which I think worked quite well and probably included a couple of images I wouldn't have felt to be strong enough as standalone.

On 26/10/86 I visited the Vic Berry Scrapyard in Leicester. I have posted one image previously, here are some more.

Once proudly pounding the mainline nearby, 45109, 45043 and 45055 are gradually being stripped.

27/04/86. To cheer us up a bit, here is another one of those fine machines in action earlier in the same year. 45120 pounds the West Coast line on route to Wolverhampton.

The somewhat maligned class 31 was not too bad to photograph, even slightly chiselled from some angles. We had a steady diet of them at Leicester - the ETH 31/4's on the Birmingham - Norwich service especially - but they always seemed to be around on parcels or a random freight. A versatile loco - just a bag of nails when underway !

24/03/85. Some usual activity in an unusual way for 31409, as Sunday engineering had the Norwich services starting from Leicester. Having brought the stock in from Derby, the Goyle runs round and moves in to head the re-timed 14.39 to Norwich.

What I was doing at 05.45am at Leicester station on Tuesday, 12th March 1985 is not very clear from my notes - it's as if when writing them I never even considered that in 40 years time it would be seen as anything other than normal behaviour. I did manage to capture 31327 & 31175 on a parcels from London though.

12/05/85. 31467 scurries through Loughborough with a south bound ECS.

02/05/85. 31459 has already run around its mail train at Leicester and is ready to continue a northbound overnight mail.
