Hi,

friend of mine wants to go to this place which I had no idea where it was till I looked but there appears to be engineering works going on so its going to be via Sheffiled so it seems.

Depart - 3rdmay around midday

back the next day around the same time.

They dont hold any railcards so can anyone possibly help me out with getting a reasonbly priced ticket there and back? as its puzzling me to death.

cheers

Patricroft is the next stop after Eccles heading out of Manchester towards Earlestown and Liverpool Lime Street.

You could try many things here. A London-Stockport or Manchester Piccadilly advance to get some worth out of the TfGM subsidised prices between Patricroft and Stockport or you could buy an advance to Warrington Bank Quay and await any service to Newton-le-Willows and a Northern Service to get you to Patricroft.

OR.... you could get an advance to Lime Street and travel even further with Northern along to Patricroft.

** I should have read 'engineering works' before typing that. I assume it affects the WCML but before or after Brum?

London st Pancras-M/c picc via sheffield change sheffield for tpe to M/c picc
arrival at M/c walk(5min) to Piccadilly garden bus sta for 33 bus to eccles purchase a day saver ticket, change bus at eccles board 67,100,22 or 68 to patricroft, return in reverse.
No train from patricroft or Eccles on sundays
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
also consider London KX-Doncaster,change for TPExp Doncaster-Manchester Picc may well be the best option see East coast web site for fares

Or alternatively......

Train to Piccadilly via Sheffield, change for train to Oxford Road, get free shuttle bus outside the station to Shudehill Interchange or Victoria for 67, 100 or 68 bus (or the train from Victoria) to Patricroft.

Or.....

Train to Piccadilly via Sheffield, walk (20mins) to Shudehill interchange or Victoria for 67, 100 or 68 bus (or the train from Victoria) to Patricroft.

Or....

Train to Piccadilly via Sheffield, Metrolink tram (or bus replacement if not running) to Shudehill interchange for 67, 100 or 68 bus to Patricroft.

Or....

Train to Piccadilly via Sheffield, Metrolink (if running) to Eccles then walk (20 mins approx.) or bus/train to Patricroft.

....No train from patricroft or Eccles on sundays....

It should be pointed out that whilst neither have a rail service on a Sunday currently, (until May 27th???), Patricroft has no service at all on a Sunday, whilst Eccles has a bus replacement to Manchester Oxford Road (timed at 20 minutes journey).

You could also walk from Eccles to Patricroft (20 mins)

CORRECTION: On 4th May there are trains from Eccles to Manchester Piccadilly (and on to the Airport), this is an alteration to the normal timetable.

:o You're on a rail site and don't know where Patricroft is???
A legendary location of one of the last British Railways steam depots, in use until the end of steam in 1968....!
(ok, ok, I guess I'm just showing my age......)

I caught the 2259 from Patricroft to Victoria last Thursday evening after going to a rugby match.

Got to say that it was a bit bleak, especially given it was dark and I had a 20 minute wait in the pouring rail!

beat me to it - even in SR-land we knew where it was (and I've ended up living
5 miles from Rose Grove too...)

Also the shrine of the Gardner diesel engine, powering a good number of buses around Lancashire and Yorkshire until its demise in the 1990s!

OK - perhaps I should join thebdiboy and lean on my stick, supping a half of shandy and recalling, misty-eyed, the days of old!

With a ticket to there you could pretty much go anywhere, just tell the guard it is in Scotland...!

It does sound Scottish too maybe more Glasgow area! How would a guard tell though? I'm guessing the price would be one giveaway but other than that there isn't much actually stopping you other than the guards knowledge.
