I went for a run myself today (007 was out) - teeming with London Overground and Bombardier staff. They seemed unhappy about something, but apart from a slight issue with closing the doors at the first stop, I didn't notice anything untoward!

As far as the train itself goes, it makes a nice change from the 313s, certainly, and the lack of corridor connections gives it a really airy feel. Most people seemed really impressed - there were a lot of shocked faces as people got aboard during the journey. However, there was the odd complaint - one man got on, looked left and right, and said 'where have all the seats gone?'

He obviously didn't realise that what looks like a pool of sick from the night before IS a seat.

(Joking aside, these are quite a big difference over a 313 - especially the state of the 313s on the line compared to, say, FCC 313s which are still perfectly up to the job IMHO).

I am led to believe there are a few problems with the external cameras and a few computer issues so there is not much chance of them being used DOO at the moment.

Not too sure if I like the seating arrangements on these trains. OK for just a short journey I suppose. But not an hour's journey from say Stratford-Richmond. Wouldn't really like being sat like that for that long, I'd prefer the normal style seating. But I suppose the majority of passengers on these services do just make short(less than half hour) journeys anyway.

Indeed, I can't imagine there are scores of people who travel between Stratford and Richmond, and I suspect the ones that do would travel via Waterloo anyway. They're fine for short hops. (well, they look fine anyway, haven't actually travelled on one yet!)

Does anyone know what the number of the Class 378 which is at New Cross Gate Depot?

I believe, it isn't scheduled to leave Derby until tonight.

Not sure of the unit number, but it might be 136 as thats the one that been bandied around for months.

I watched the engine run around this train at London Bridge then later on went past and seen them taking the rear barrier wagon off the train in the yard at New Cross. Lots of orange jackets and flashes going off!

So did they leave the unit there then, is it in the yard now or did it get taken away again?

Saw one of these operating a DC line passenger service into Euston this afternoon. I'm fairly sure this is the first day of them on the DC lines as I've not seen it reported and the diagram that was one today was definitely a 313 yesterday.

You are absolutley right. 378007 running between EUS-WJC with a conductor as there are visability issues with the DOO bodyside cameras. Unfortunatley with 378's you cant simply stick your head out the window like with the 313s although I wouldnt mind seeing a LOROL driver trying on a boring shift

Have to say not sure how the journey went but every single arrival in euston was late, arriving at train time nearly every round trip whereas the 313's usually arrive early. Can anyone shed any light on why? Maybe dwell times are higher..

The 378s seem to sit at the platform for longer than 313s.

Dwell times have not changed.. It's just that drivers who operate the doors on a 313 are quicker than a guard on a 378.

You are right on the latter part and wrong on the former part of this statement.
Yes there are issues with the DOO equipment on the 378s, however they not operating with Conductors. No Conductors sign the route Euston to Watford. I can only assume that this person was indeed a Manager, or another driver being used as a Conductor.

I agree with that statement, trains with guards tend to be painfully slow in comparison to DOO services but I was on a few 378s a couple of weeks ago and on both occasions there was a delay between the guard giving the buzzer and the train moving (must have been a slow driver!) Another issue could be that AIUI on 378s the guards are supposed to travel in the saloons and the procedure is to open local doors, check train, open other doors and then the reverse for closing - I wouldn't hesitate to say that the time in doing this is longer than for the single leaf cab doors on the 313s.
