Tickets were not intended to be used in this way and Mr Fassam had been benefitting from an error in the Routeing Guide. The reason why you are not allowed to travel to Liverpool via Manchester is because historically (and this is still the case), tickets to Liverpool are cheaper than tickets to Manchester.

If this attitude from ATOC is not concrete evidence that private companies shouldn't be let anywhere near OUR Railway, I don't know what is. Who do we vote for for nationalisation? Certainly not Mr Leech, put it that way.

In all fairness Mr Leech has been brilliant in trying to help; it is purely the obstinence of ATOC that is the problem.

Yes, that's kinda what I meant - he outshines his parties record. Unfortunately that isn't enough for me to want to vote to re-elect him!

I don't see your problem. There has ALWAYS (since BR days) been an option to travel via Manchester, but at a premium. The ANY PERMITTED ticket was never valid via Manchester under normal circumstances, and you would have had to of purchased the specific VIA MANCHESTER fare.

The removal of the premium VIA MANCHESTER fare seems to be the issue, but if this is reintroduced, it would obviously have to be at a higher level than the Liverpool and Manchester - London fares to reflect the enhanced validity.

Nationalised or not, nobody has ever allowed you to travel Liverpool-London via Manchester except during engineering works, WITHOUT paying for the premium routed VIA MANCHESTER fare. (The fact they forgot to remove the engineering easement isn't surprising, but doesn't mean it should stay forever).

Like I said, the more (and very) reasonable route via Warrington being removed should be the focus!

Ask ATOC/VWC to create a new VIA MANCHESTER fare, I'd say £4-£5 higher than Manchester-London.

I think its time for judicial review on this one. Contact your MP again after the General Election and take this up with him once more. The option to go via Manchester is VERY useful when there is "on the day" disruption.

all changed

How amusing :p

Easement 700567

During engineering works over the May Bank holiday weekend 02 - 04 May 2015, an
hourly Manchester to London Euston service will start from Liverpool Lime Street.
Normally tickets between Liverpool and London are not valid via Manchester. This map
easement allows that routeing for the duration of the engineering works. This
easement applies in both directions.

What they really mean is:
Tickets have been accepted via Manchester for the last 15 years and we don't like it. So we've got rid of the route and we're pretending it never existed. This is to make sure all passengers are treated fairly.
