LSL and the SRPS have entered into a partnership

BREAKING NEWS!
The Scottish Railway Preservation Society and the Royal Scot Locomotive and General Trust announce a new long-term partnership for running heritage trains in Scotland!
The Scottish Railway Preservation Society (“SRPS”) operates the Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway (B&KR) and is Britain's longest established operator of scenic railway excursions, having started running railtours in 1970. The Royal Scot Locomotive and General Trust (“Royal Scot”) is part of Crewe based Locomotive Services Group (“LSL”) which operates luxury railtours throughout the UK.
SRPS and Royal Scot are delighted to announce today that they have entered into an exciting, long-term and mutually beneficial partnership that will see LSL offer traditional style railway carriage accommodation and ensures the long-term deployment of SRPS’s mainline-capable fleet of carriages.
SRPS has invested significantly in terms of volunteer and financial resources in overhauling its carriage collection to meet the latest safety standards required. This has recently been boosted by arrangements with third parties to expedite this work, with some carriages recently travelling to Barrow Hill. The first of the overhauled carriages is expected to return in July, with Royal Scot having generously supported some of this work.
As part of the partnership, LSL will stable locomotives and rolling stock on the Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway, and visiting locomotives will feature on B&KR services. Visiting locomotives and special services will be advertised in due course. LSL will also provide locomotives and support services for the SRPS’ own day excursion railtours around Scotland.
Speaking on completion of the partnership, Andrew Wells (Finance Director of the SRPS) said,
“As we approach our 55th year of operation, the partnership with Royal Scot is an exciting one for the SRPS and we look forward to our passengers being able to enjoy the experience of historic railway journeys on the mainline once again in our newly overhauled carriages. Royal Scot has an impressive fleet of beautifully restored locomotives that have deep connections to Scotland and we look forward to hosting them on services on the Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway.
The arrangement also provides vital funds to assist in the SRPS’s prime purpose of restoring and preserving its significant Scottish Railway collection for future generations.”
Jeremy Hosking, chair of the Royal Scot Trust and the wider LSL Group added: “It is a pleasure to be partnering with, and to be invited to operate, these SRPS heritage assets on the British mainline railway. Railworthy carriages of the ‘Mark One’ design remain un-failingly popular with travellers and the upgraded features they require to operate on the mainline in 2024 and beyond requires external finance. We are pleased to be in a position to provide this. The carriages will now be seen in operation on the mainline many years into the future”.
The Scottish Railway Preservation Society (SRPS) was formed in 1961 and is the operator of the Museum of Scottish Railways and the Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway. SRPS Railtours is the longest established operator of day excursions by heritage train, since 1970.

This seems a massively sensible partnership - possibly deflecting SRPS from some of the 'up front' cost of the carriage upgrades?
Favours and support in both directions on a simple read?

Is this a partnership or a takeover? Are the SPRS carriages going to be subsumed into the LSL fleet?

That's not how it came across to me, although it appears the SRPS stock will be made available for use by LSL.

it wasn't clear to me. it was this line : "It is a pleasure to be partnering with, and to be invited to operate, these SRPS heritage assets on the British mainline railway...and the upgraded features they require to operate on the mainline in 2024 and beyond requires external finance. We are pleased to be in a position to provide this. The carriages will now be seen in operation on the mainline many years into the future"

There are Partnerships and "partnerships" after all!

Perhaps the owners political stance skews my judgement and makes me look for the worst!

Sorry, but what on earth does his political stance have to do with this agreement? I'm just grateful we have a wealthy man ploughing lots of money into the heritage rail sector. His political opinions are his own affair. What about the boss of your local taxi company, or your local supermarket, or the bosses of any of the dozens of other businesses who you give money to every week? Chances are some of them will also have political opinions that don't match yours.

Look at it this way, the more money he spends on trains the less goes to funding the snake oil merchants.

Anyone in the know;: yesterday's saphos to kingswear. Problems with brakes on 47828 at Westbury. Was it removed there or did it run on the rear with 47810 to Taunton. Removed there & left there or was part of the Rtn to Woking ??.

Indeed - me too.

To balance things out politically, I'll always be grateful to Liberal Democrat Tim Farron for allowing me to have a '33' to Windermere back in 2018.

I was on the tour.

We were told that 'brake problems' had meant that the outward leg couldn't reverse at Westbury, and therefore continued with 47828 on the front and 47810 on the back to Taunton via Bristol.

47828 was then removed for 61306 to take over to Kingswear with arrival 85 minutes late.

For the departure from Kingswear, I was expecting to see 47810 on the back, but it was marshalled at the front behind the steam locomotive.

After an on time arrival at Taunton, there seemed to be some confusion, with 47810 detaching and running towards the back of the train and then returning to the front. As we departed, 47828 was seen to have been left in the siding in which it had been parked in the morning.

At Westbury, the run-round time was extended by the locomotive having to travel around the triangle in order to reverse the loco. The reason was seen, on its return, to be some sort of windscreen damage marked by a couple of pieces of black tape across the windscreen on the secondman's side.

This might have explained its departure from Kingswear on the front of the stock in the expectation of 47828 being marshalled on the back at Taunton.

This windscreen problem somehow didn't seem to affect its reasonably rapid reversal at Woking, and return of the empty stock to Eastleigh. Having got home later than expected, I was able to follow this on the signalling diagrams.

Suspect that will be 47712 for the Saphos and 37409 to collect 47828 then. Hopefully nothing too serious wrong with '828 as it's required for Statesman duties next weekend

Morning everyone. Does any one have any information on any exciting potential traction for the the Three Peaks charity charter later this week?

Last year we had Britannia on the first leg and it would be great to see something unusual appear again as it brought out the crowds on the North Wales Coast and no doubt generated a lot of goodwill. Thank you

Nope came back to Crewe today on 5Z21 with MK2 3330 and 47712
Thanks. At least it was connected with the same Southbound move.

Is it permitted these days to haul loco-hauled coaching stock without a brake vehicle in the consist? I seem to recall a similar situation a couple of weeks ago when West Coast moved their second 'Jacobite' set from Carnforth to Fort William.
