One thing that keeps coming up is the viability of ordering brand new DMUs with electrification schemes in progress. However, in contrast to that argument we have ageing non-DDA complaint DMUs which may not last until various electrification schemes are complete and even if they do there is the DDA compliance issue.
However, what would be the viability of having a number new DEMUs for local services? I appreciate these will be more expensive than DMUs but they could either be ordered to be dual powered or be upgraded to be dual powered at a later date.
