Someone has posted elsewhere that his train (1N78 above) was formed 350117+350258+350369. A real choice for passengers...

Thanks for the diagram information there!

I saw some 350/3s in the Camden carriage sidings on Saturday, would they have been those three units?

Grounded!

But Siemens units never have problems... ;) Everyone must be imagining them all being banished to sidings today (regardless of who you want to blame for the blacklisting, if you believe Siemens could fall down to such a thing!)

Ah! I have always wondered what that was for! Sorry to be off topic, but does anybody know what is kept in them nowadays?
I believe the ones on 350s were never used as guards offices, only to store trolleys in back when you actually had trolley services, and are correspondingly empty of any equipment - also explains why the glass is opaque as well.

Knowing the railways, the office itself is probably a design relic from when the 350s were going to be 450s for SWT or something and were never replaced during the construction stage.

I've only read the last couple of pages, but just to clarify something, the reason 350/3s are 'staying away from Birmingham' isn't exactly because New Street Guards don't sign them, most now do. The reason is because none of the Guards at New Street, Wolverhampton or (iirc) Coventry have been trained on GSM-R and 350/3s don't have NRN, so they can't work them. The training hasn't begun and no one seems to know when it will...

For some TOCs, guards ;)

I suppose I asked for that one ;) :D

Seem to remember thinking I could spy a trolley like shadow in the glass :D. Thanks for the info!

In the space there is a metal rack which would have held a couple of hot water urns and has a couple of power points on it, and that's all that's in there now. They don't serve any useful purpose.
Not sure if its true as I didn't work there when trollies existed but a lot of my colleagues have said that they weren't ever used to store trollies either as the trollies couldn't be turned enough to actually get in there.

Am I the only one thinking that when Doddle has enough stores open in the right places, those trolley stores would be perfect for sending parcels by rail between offices? Granted it would probably be limited to ends of route, but better than nothing.

Most useful to know!

I went for the 2105 Euston to Bletchley on Tuesday, arrived there around 2040 and it was cancelled. As were other services mind. Some sort of issue on the WCML no doubt, I ended up doing some moves on the Southern instead.

Will get them in eventually!

Sure some guards from the local area have started training, as I was at the London Midland Academy a week or two ago and some West Midlands-sounding drivers or guards were there talking about how they were there for it! No idea what depot they were really from though...

Maybe designed for a different type of trolley, like the smaller ones in use now on the 350/4s?

AFAICS the compartment itself is identical to that on the 450s, and was therefore designed to be used as a guards office, and is used as such on all the SWT versions.

Back in CT/Silverlink days a guard told me that they were not using them as guards offices on the original 350/1s for one reason - that the union did not agree and believed it was better to operate from the back cab.

Which I believe was to stick two fingers up at management (one or two members in particular) who said that we weren't to be in ANY cab, at all, ever. The space spoken about on the mark 1's was only ever meant to be for a trolley service. However the trolley service was never implemented on them. That area is not and never has been set up as a Guard's office, and now never will be. I would be surprised if that area stayed in after the units go for refurb.

GSM-R training was done (certainly for us on the south end of the route) about three months ago. Most (if not all) drivers are now trained on it also.

Causton - none of the 350's have NRN..........

Also Should we have a topic in the Allocations and Diagrams thread for these units save this thread getting clogged up?

If you can get LM to publish their unit diagrams you will be doing well, I've been asking them about the 172 stuff at meetings for some time but they play the "Dark Art" card every time.
