Just so you have sommet decent to ride on. Cotswold Rail aren't selling and 47s, and you need more than "a load of stuff" to run a train service. And 153s and 156s are awfully worn now.

jesus how many times do I have to say that it's not that I'm wanting something decent to ride on, I really couldn't care less if it was voyagers at the moment, because it's so bloody awful. And also, CR are considering selling 2 of their class 47s.

Dunno what your gen source is, but they are not

I have just travelled on the 1452 Lime Street-Norwich as far as Stockport and had a table to myself all through the journey. Wasn't the only spare table either.

RAIL 597 said:
Cotswold Rail is willing to part with two class 47/8s as it looks to move further into the freight market. Managing director Adrian Parcell told RAIL he would consider dispensing with 47813 'John Peel' and 47818 'Emily' in favour of boosting his freight fleet. "Hiring class 56s would be an option - even 66s", he said, reffering to the ten class 66/4s due to be sent off-lease by DRS later this year.'

Do I have to explain any further??

I think you will find that the 1452 is NOT a peak journey. Most of the trains across the network will have space around that time. The problem is, that train will be arriving at Nottingham around peak time, and there will be no room left at all. If you would like to get maybe a train around 4.30pm - 6.30pm, I think you will find your comments are not the same. Also, try that specific service on a Friday or the weekend...

You start getting a problem when the TPE services are full during peak, as are the EMT. People travelling beyond Manchester from Liverpool will have a very unpleasant journey. The route needs additional rolling stock, because at some point the trains that run currently will form a peak service, and if it is just a 2-car 158, there is obviously going to be problems.

Where do people think the 180s would be better off?

Liverpool - Norwich or
Huddersfield - Blackpool?

well excuse me for trusting a reliable source, as they were speaking directly to the CR Managing Director! If RAIL lied all the time, do you think they'd be amongst the most well known and most well bought rail mags in the UK?

:shock::shock::shock::? :lol::lol::lol::lol: Beast of a quote!

Cotswold Spin Merchants + Ned News / Rail Magazine = DUD GEN <D
This is the magazine that claimed 87016 (IIRC) worked a service train out of Liverpool St in the 90s  Anyone care to add any other 'Rail' nonsense stories - in fact havent they had both Swift Rail and BDPL as 'the next big thing' interviews!!!

Don't worry, we all learn, I just like poking fun in general!
Same as net sources - things change so the article looks silly, but Rail does have a bit of a reputation for dud gen...

IMO the EMT services would be a better use of 180s then Blackpools, but that doesn't matter one jot to anyone 8) Three units isn't going to make any world beating changes anyway...

Nowt personal here, but...

Anyone remember the Cotswold 92s? Or how about the 2 Blue and Grey HST sets for charter work? How about 47714's overhaul to Class 57 standard? No, how about the fleet of 87s for a freight flow from the North East? OK, final try how about the Cotswold 66's?

What two things do those all have in common?

1/ They appeared in LIAR as direct quotes from Parcell himself.
2/ They never happened.

Both EMT & HT trains are restricted to the slow line, which is unfair as the Pioneers are rated for 110, and are on the fast lines through peterborough but stop at Grantham.

As far as I'm aware, the Pioneers don't run slow line, as they have good acceleration and can run at 125mph. That's how they can achieve journey times from Hull-London of 2 hours 30 minutes.

In summary, no

The Adelantes are locked down. There is only a rake of Mk3's that can be found from the stock that has not been ringfenced for NXEC.

Thanks for this, bluenoxid. Not only is this bad news for users of EMT services, but it does not bode well for future expansion of rail travel in UK - unless there is a load of new train building going on right now that will become available to traffic in the next few years. Unless more stock becomes available, services will become more and more overcrowded as rail travel continues to increase, as it almost certainly will.

Who has first dibs on those Adelantes?

Virgin (2)
Hull Trains (got 1, dibs on a further 4(IIRC))
Allegedly Northern get 3 soon
FGW 3

Thats 13 of the 14.... (and I bet Northern get 4 to cover 3 diagrams)

If the Stobart Pullman rake doesn't go to Virgin Trains, where will that go?
maybe being a bit optimistic, but if when LM gets rid of their 150s, if some were to go to EMT, maybe that would free up some more 156s/158s for Liverpool-Norwich? But of course Northern and FGW are keen for them... but of course it's a similar case with EMT that the majority of drivers won't need training as Central Trains operated /0, /1, and /2 subclass around here now and again...

I think the next major investment in the UK railway in terms of trains will be the replacements for the 142s/150s and the cascaded 323s from Northern. I believe that the 172s are likely to replace the pacer/sprinters and some chinese stock is due for Northern. Merseyrail's entire fleet of 507/508s will be useless soon, so there is going to be no spare EMUs anywhere. The new HSTs will probably free up 43s and 91s, but they will probably be dead anyway by the time that happens.

Government needs to get its act together and invest heavily, they simply cannot cope with the demand at the moment, and it can only get worse. Passengers will not accept sub-standard, recycled stock for much longer, especially as year on year, fares increase.

I think TOCs should also be forced to introduce new rolling stock into their franchise agreements. They earn millions and the passenger sees next to nothing of it. Stagecoach Group are particularly bad at this.

Its not... The DfT (they got their finger out) plan is for an impossible train - see Informed Sources website for more details, which they want lighter and more efficient but also bimode (i.e. must carry a diesel genny all the time) and have distributed power. They want fast acceleration, short dwell times, roomy interiors and a high top speed.

In short they want the InterCity Express Project to be a miracle. But it is due in 2012 for testing and fully introduced by 2016 to ECML and GWML at least.

In many opinions, a new Mk5 coach with cl91 style electric PC and cl43 style diesel PC which could be changed rapidly would be a better solution.....

doubt class 43s will be going anywhere for a while... considering that there are none spare, and only 3 withdrawn (all because of crash damage)

I was reading in the paper a few days ago that apparently all Manchester-Sheffield trains will make a stop at Hazel Grove, so that the passengers/station can have a much better benefit for the 'Station Travel Plans' facilities that are to be put into place as a pilot scheme for certain stations.

I can see why, would probrably be good for the TPE ones, less pax at Stockport (and they always end up stopping around that area anyway whilst waiting for a path into Stockport), but I don't think the EMT services should stop. Already busy as they are, and have a long cross country route to keep up on trains that constantly keep failing. They don't need the hassle of stopping again and adding more to what is already a long journey.

you should try the late night Liverpool-Nottingham which stops at all stations between Chinley and Sheffield :lol: there's also a few with completely random stopping patterns between Nottingham and Grantham sometimes.

I can see the point in stopping at Hazel Grove actually ....

It's in the south east corner of Stockport, and saves a bus/taxi journey from Stockport staion itself. There is quite a few passengers who do get on/off TPE services at Stockport from the Sheffield direction (not sure about EMT though), plus, if it's timed correctly, it's an easier connection to local stations around there as well.

and it'd take a bit off Northern's 323s... but then again, that'd mean more passengers crammed on EMT :( stuck between a rock and a hard place!
