Hello everyone,

I hope you're all doing well. In July, I received an MG11 witness statement as a result of not having a valid ticket. Today, I received the official letter regarding this matter. I fully acknowledge that this was my mistake, and I'm not looking to make any excuses.

I'm currently in the process of drafting a letter to Southeastern to address this issue. Would anyone be willing to share some advice or insights on how to proceed effectively? Your input would be greatly appreciated.

-----------
Dear Southeastern Rail Team,

I am writing to acknowledge the incident on July 26, 2023, in which I failed to pay for my ticket from Westcombe Park to Charing Cross. I want to express my sincere apologies for my actions on that day. I understand the importance of paying fares as required to ensure a fair and efficient transport system for all passengers.

I would like to assure you that this was an isolated incident and not a reflection of my typical behavior. I genuinely regret my lapse in judgment and fully recognize the need to respect and abide by the fare regulations. I understand the impact fare evasion has on Southeastern Rail and its fare-paying customers, and I am committed to ensuring it does not happen again.

I am more than willing to pay the fare that is owed for the journey in question. I will promptly take action to settle the outstanding amount.

Once again, I deeply apologize for my actions and any inconvenience they may have caused. I appreciate your understanding and hope to demonstrate my commitment to compliance with Southeastern Rail's policies moving forward.

Sincerely,
-----------
Also one more question. They sent it to me on 31Aus. However, I just received it today (4th Sep). I only have 3 days to send it to the above address. What would happen if they received my letter after 7 Sep?

I think you need to add in that you (a) wish to avoid court action (b) will also pay their administrative costs in resolving this matter.

IMHO - I appreciate others may have different views - is that you wording seems somewhat "remote and detached" and not actually "direct". For example you say that "I want to express my sincere apologies" rather than "I sincerely apologise ......". "I would like to assure you....." rather than saying "I assure you....".

Also I suggest you do not "hope to demonstrate my commitment to compliance....moving forward" but rather "I am committed to complying with South Easterns policies......".

I also note that some of the spelling is "American English" and not "British English". A very minor point admittedly.

The letter is generally ok but I would incorporate the suggestions made by @Titfield

The only other comment I've got is where you refer to this as an isolated incident. While I'm not doubting what you say if you have done thgis before then leave this bit out.

Hi, I’m curious to know wha the final outcome was from your letter as I have also received an MG11 and am really stressed about what will happen?

I received a letter after a month. The penalty amounted to £150, with an additional ticket fee of £5.2, totaling £155.2

As always, if you would like help in the forum about your situation, please start your own thread. (My apologies. I see you have done so.)
