Might be cheaper to split at Huddersfield or Dewsbury, but bed time for me so someone else will have to have a look.
from what I can tell from NFM05, there are No SVRs to either of those points from Lancaster.
Inded it is valid for maps NC+MH+TP which allows Carlisle - Crewe - Manchester - Middlesbrough
It is also valid via the S&C so is cheaper than a NE Round Robin (£39)

The only acronym is the S&C, which usually*, and in this context, refers to the Settle-Carlisle line, originally part of the Midland Railway from London St Pancras but now the regular service is just Leeds-Carlisle.Sorry i'm new to this.. what do those acronyms mean?

NC+MH+TP are maps in the National Routeing Guide, see http://www.atoc.org/about-atoc/rail-settlement-plan/routeing-guide which is the incredibly complex set of documents that determines permitted routes.
(* In infrastructure terms, S&C can refer to switches and crossings)
i'd watch out on the ticket because.. southern, transpennine, east coast, northern and virgin.. are all saying the £22.80 ticket is not valid via manchester....... even though permitted routes are allowing.
Carlisle to Middlesbrough
anytime return £22.80
No they aren't saying that. Thetrainline isn't allowing it.i'd watch out on the ticket because.. southern, transpennine, east coast, northern and virgin.. are all saying the £22.80 ticket is not valid via manchester....... even though permitted routes are allowing.
Just a quick heads up. I used this ticket fine, no questions asked!
Whereabouts enroute were you gripped ? I checked the National Rail Journey Planner and it said that you had to buy two separate tickets for the Carlisle - Middlesbrough via Manchester journey.
