Obviously with covid services were reduced to start then reinstated, but my question is why is it still only peak services that are half hourly Lanark to Central? Also why do some services miss out Bellshill after Motherwell and go straight to Uddingston via WCML?

Was a bit surprised myself at Lanark off-peak services being reduced to hourly. In one direction (southbound) Uddingston gets little better than an hourly service (with the Lanark services and Shotts stoppers running within a few minutes of each other). I'm no expert on timetabling, but I'm sure there must be scope for better dovetailing of the Shotts, Carstairs and Lanark services to provide some of the intermediate stations with a more balanced service, particularly with other services that share parts of these routes (XC, TPX and other ScotRail services through Haymarket) currently curtailed or halved in frequency.

I never noticed the Lanark services were still hourly. Still 320 and 318s on the route.

Answer may be to do with this:

‘The suspension of driver training during lockdown, due to physical distancing rules making it impossible for two people to sit in the driver’s cab at the same time, means it’s not yet possible for a full service to operate. Where ScotRail must operate a reduced service, it will be at the times of the day when fewest people travel’
