There is no up date on the KWVR website. I suspect it may be something from the East Lancashire Rly as 47 712 + stock moved to the East Lancs yesterday afternoon?Did we ever hear what this was?
Fully agree,I can't belive anybody alive still needs 401.a shed WILL get peeps to buy a ticket whereas you will not get anybody new with another 37Personally I hope it's the 66 that is currently in the Sidings at York. 3 37s seem to much
I thought a 70 went up there? Are they lighter then?Too heavy for the line the class 66 so unfortunately no chance.

I queried this on their Facebook page as Classes 56, 68 and 70 have all worked along that line over the years at previous galas. However, I received a reply saying that since the visit of F****g S******n (lol), new weight limits have now been imposed, thus preventing heavier locomotives from traversing the line.I thought a 70 went up there? Three visiting 37s, all with ETH boxes on the front, is less than ideal.
Thanks for that! Apologies if my post seemed to single-handedly apportion blame to Flying Scotsman - the reply I got on Facebook said it was since the visit! Your reply mentions annual tonnages - does that mean each time a train/loco passes over a bridge, a cumulative weight figure builds up, and if it is exceeded, the next annual tonnage figure is lower than the one previously to compensate?Hahaha
It's not quite that simple and it isn't the fault of the Flying Scotsman. It is all about annual tonnages, which obviously the flying Scotsman has increased but on the flip side it brings in the money that will contribute heavily to the renewal of Bridge 27 next year.
And I can tell you with some confidence the railways civil engineer is working hard to get the weight restrictions lifted!
West Highland Line with 401 and 403.Just close your eyes and pretend you're on the Far North in 1986
....or Cumbrian Coast Line with 401 - Corkickle Tunnel (confined single track).West Highland Line with 401 and 403.
Ingrow Tunnel / Queen St Tunnel - close enough!![]()
No, all maroon or pullman brown/cream or whatever it’s called401 and 403 together will look pretty smart. Do they have any blue/grey stock to stick them on?
No need to apologise my response was to the Facebook post not you really. Thanks for that! But if the visit of Flying Scotsman has brought in extra funds towards the renewal of the bridge you mention, then that is most definitely a good thing!!!
We have the LSL Mk3+DBSO set though - the WTT is published, and Saturday evening has it with a pair of 37s.No, all maroon or pullman brown/cream or whatever it’s called
Nice!We have the LSL Mk3+DBSO set though - the WTT is published, and Saturday evening has it with a pair of 37s.
I would have diagrammed them on the uphill end of the Mark 1s all day.We have the LSL Mk3+DBSO set though - the WTT is published, and Saturday evening has it with a pair of 37s.
…On the suburban set, droplights for everyoneI would have diagrammed them on the uphill end of the Mark 1s all day.
Air cons? Pfft.
Very interesting reading, thanks for your reply! No need to apologise my response was to the Facebook post not you really.
KWVR works on a heavy days system which achieves the same thing. It doesn't impact the next year. Flying Scotsman has used up a lot of days is a short version of the tail, but there is then also a long version including locos over 21 tons which I won't go into here.
The main issue is a bridge in real need of renewal that has been put off and put off due to various circumstances including flooding causing a rethink, bridge 11 becoming more urgent and then COVID, and it obviously hasn't gotten any younger in that time. Planning for this is now well underway (those who are KWVR members will have seen an article in this quarters push and pull). Also we are on with assessing other weak bridges on the railway to try and update our axle loading and heavy engine restrictions. Gonna take a fair bit of work but we are working on it to try help future diesel galas.
Sorry, was there all day yesterday. Are any RailUK Forum members currently - or later in the day - joining me at the K&WVR Diesel Gala? I'm currently in the second coach from the North End of the 6RMB set with 37 075 running round at Oxenhope.
