Yellow jackets (as opposed to orange) would suggest nothing trackside yet...

Get happy guys, the starting pistols are being fired this month.

http://trundleage.co.uk/2014/10/west-yorkshire-stations-update/

The following updates have been published online as part of the Information Reports for the October Meetings of the Leeds and Bradford Districts Consultative Committees.

Leeds Rail Growth Package (Kirkstall Forge and Apperley Bridge)
2.68. Detailed designs for both Apperley Bridge and Kirkstall Forge are now approaching
completion, and Network Rail’s contractor is making preparations to start on
site. Work will start on site at Apperley Bridge in October 2014 and at Kirkstall Forge
in January 2015. These works will be preceded by CEG (the developer of the Kirkstall
Forge site) and Leeds City Council’s contractor starting on site in October for the
construction of the access road. Station opening is still planned for August
2015. Northern Rail has now commenced staff recruitment to operate the train
service and stations from this date.

Great news - just hoping it comes with a decent timetable into the evenings and on Sundays when I'll be able to use it.

Well, last I heard was 1tph daytime to/from Leeds with the service coming from/going to different places in each direction so I wouldn't hope for anything better than that. :(

Really? That sounds like a downgrade from what was publicised by Metro previously (and which was presumably considered as part of the CBA process) of daytime services being calls added to the LDS-BDQ services.

It will quickly fall apart if they run it for long with that timetable. The Bradford trains will have to stop, sending people to Guiseley for Bradford is insane (more to the point people won't do it)

You don't think these stations are being provided for the benefit of anyone not travelling to/from Leeds do you?

I wonder how often people won't be able to get on the (hourly) train to Leeds in the morning peak? How busy do the Ilkley trains get these days?

It would seem bizarre not to stop the Bradford trains. These have always been the least busy of the lot.

I understood that to be the original plan. Presumably the change in plan and halving of the level of service comes down to pathing issues?

Can't imagine it being anything else. That's a busy stretch of line these days.

I think we will have to wait and see...

Another planners cock-up. Organising parties in breweries again. This is what happens opening two stations on a route where there isn't the capacity for even one. The only way this can be successful is to requadrify between Shipley and Leeds as it used to be but this would have wrecked the cost/benefit analysis.

Better to get them built and have something stop there than nothing at all. Perhaps they might re-shuffle the time table at some stage so that the Bradford's can stop there instead.

As I say I'm not sure the service pattern is totally 100% signed off yet is it? We will just have to wait and see!

The Bradford Telegraph & Argus is reporting a visit by Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin to the "building site" of the future Apperley Bridge station.

After 15+ years of planning, it's actually happening. Rejoice!

I took a return trip Leeds to Shipley this morning / afternoon. Could see some extensive work on a bridge, and a huge building site for Redrow - Horsforth Vale, apparently. Lots and lots of vegetation clearance happening too all the way from Armley Jn through to Thackley Tunnel. Sadly I could not see the sites of the stations, and at mostly 90mph I can't seem to pin down where the two stations will even be from aboard the train.

I noticed all of the following landmarks though, can someone tell me between which the stations will go? Many thanks.

-Armley Jn
-Kirkstall Looops
-Kirkstall Abbey
-Aforementioned wasteland that is a building site
-Apperley Jn
-Thackley Tn
-Dockfield Jn

Apperley Bridge will go between Apperley Junction and Thackley Tunnel, to the West of Apperley Lane which is itself just West of Apperley Junction. The old station site was East of Apperley Lane.

Further to IanD's comment, the Kirkstall redevelopment site is approx. 1000metres west of Kirkstall Abbey. You might make out where the station will go from here-

http://www.kirkstallforge.com/residential/masterplan.html

A small amount of enabling work has recently started on the commercial development but there wasn't much going on when I passed last week.

I believe your "aforementioned wasteland" with the Redrow development is the former Sandoz chemicals area. The former Calverley and Rodley station was here and it's a shame the Council didn't get the developers to fund a new station here. Might have been a better bet than Kirkstall.

I have been wondering this for a while will Kirkstall Forge station be called Kirkstall Forge or just Kirkstall as when there were 2 stations in Kirkstall it made sense to use that name but now of course there isn't so the Forge suffix seems redundant.

I had a free read of this in the Shipley station café. He is quoted as saying additional rolling stock will be provided when the new stations open (ie August 2015).
More 321's?

In all the plans it's always been referred to as Kirkstall Forge and I'd imagine it'll stay that way purely for clarity about it's location. May also make things simpler for Sat Navs etc by using the name of the existing location
