I have listed some of the longer preserved standard guage lines in the UK - which is your favourite?

I'd say the Bluebell Railway.

I'd have to say either the Bluebell Railway, or the Kent & East Sussex, as both have been stunningly restored to as they would have been many years ago. Both are very impressive railways, with impressive locos and rolling stock.
I think I'd have to chose the Bluebell, as it goes one step further than any other line listed.

My favourite out of them lines is the Bluebell Railway. They are home to a wide variety of different steam locmotives, some of which are sole survivors and some of are my most favourites. A top line which will be made even better when they start running trains into East Grinstead.

Suprised the Severn Valley Railway hasn't got its own section to vote, that to is a superb line with stunning views of the surrounding countryside and a very nice collection of locomotives and rolling stock.

Has to be the Lancs, loads of Diesel running each year, brilliant galas, loads of locos and some top thrash merchants to drive them!

Either the NYMR or ELR for me. I think I'll go with the NYMR as it's closed to me and the scenery is a bit nice IMO.

I've heard good things about the Llangollen. I've not got around to visiting yet though.

Quite interesting that the Wensleydale line has'nt had any votes: I think this could be due to 2 things:

1) No regular steam services.
2) Recently opened + not near any major towns/cities thus not many people have travelled on it.

Also suprised that the West Somerset has'nt had any votes (as of yet.)

2) Recently opened + not near any major towns/cities thus not many people have travelled on it.

The Wensleydale Railway is closer to me than the NYMR, but I've only travelled on it once so I can't really give it a fair comparison to others. Hopefully I'll get down there for their diesel gala in September. I also need to pay a visit to the Weardale railway sometime too... (141 thrash )

Same can be said for the East Kent Railway where I volunteer. Nice line, but no steam :cry:

Vote For Wensleydale! They're on about increasing steam and there is a great gala coming up. However I must admit the NYMR is also great.

There's also the fact that the Wensleydale isn't a preserved railway - it's a community line.

I agree with you there - I can't see any reason why the local community who use public transport would use the train rather than a bus which takes them straight in to Northallerton. The public the railway needs to attract are the tourists.

I totally agree with you there Mr EE Type 3. I went many years ago, and was so impressed with the views and the railway as a whole. Had some haulage from a lovely GWR Prarie Tank.. which really suited the line. Doesnt get much better than that. :grin:

So it appears that the Great Central Railway is in the lead, closeley followed by the East Lancs. Both great railways so no suprises there really.

As for Scotland - nil points.

Totally agreed. You have to go to appreciate just how beautiful Wales proper is (North Wales is so much nicer than South Wales), then there's all those amazing diesel galas they've held. Obviously we'll have to see what happens with future galas but they're still going to have plenty of brilliant locos. That climb, I didn't think it would be much good before I sampled it. 37240 up there, magnifico!

Obviously, Llangollen gets my vote. Severn Valley's nice but too much steam!

Yeah certainly - Embssay and Bolton Abbey is a superb quaint rural line. Great locos and rolling stock. Would have loved to fit it in the poll but I wanted to put the 'bigger' lines in. Lakeside and Haverthwaite is another similar line.
