Did they say anything to you after your dmi? I had mine a week ago and felt like a did ****. But Brandon said it was a decent Interview. But decent doesn't just quite cut it does it

I had mine with a guy called Gary, the whole interview felt relaxed and comfortable. Afterwards I asked what would happen now and he said that he will be passing my details on to HR and then he asked if he'd got my contact details correct. I presume that they will be wanting so many to start together for the training.

I proper flapped it. Prepared like mad and then blanked got in car on way home and remembered everything I was originally supposed to have said

Mine was just over 2 weeks ago now and I was told it'd be between 2-4 weeks to hear from HR, dependent on them. It makes sense I guess now that they'd wait for everyone to have completed their DMI's across the various depots, then sort everyone out together.

I had mine at Toton but my first choice of hub is doncaster (I live in Worksop) when I arrived I was expecting more interviewers but he said that no one else was available to attend. I got the feeling that being a Junior Driver might be short-lived as they are expecting a few mainline drivers to leave/or already have left and he went on to say that people may progress sooner than expected.

I wouldn't worry as they understand how popular the role is and how nervous people are as a result of that. I bet they've interviewed 1000s and can easily see beyond that.

Just a mention, so you're not surprised if you get a job... It's South Yorkshire hub with work at Tinsley, Masbrough and Doncaster.

There are some mainline vacancies (a few more will become available in the next few months too), with another 2 people likely to retire in the next 2 years.

There's already some junior drivers, with more in training (these are internal applicants), so they'll be the first to step up to mainline positions (as with many things on the railway, I think promotion to mainline driver will be on footplate date, so the ones who started first should be the ones to move on first).

My advice for anyone is to take the job for what it is... Driving and shunting practice. For the money and the hours, it's an excellent paid job!

Shunters at freightliner 47k a year for 35 hour week only having to go in mainline to bring loco back I to other end if terminal. Steady job I definstley wouldn't be complaining if I were lucky enough to be successful especially with donny only being 8 mile drive

when I recently applied for Freightliner HH shunter at Crewe they quoted £36k as the pay.
£47k was advertised as the FL mainline driver rate

I might be wrong think our shunters are general mainline drivers but get rostered into yard to shunt every other day

Ahh that might explain the difference if one is a driver doing a shunter role as they are short.

Yeah I'm not sure what other shunters get paid, but for what you'd do in the role as a Junior at DB, it's fantastic wages and good opportunity.

I take it you don't currently work in the railway?

Railway HR does not go very quickly, they'll be looking at how many they need, when they can organise medicals, courses etc etc, then let people know.

Yeah I work for freightliner. They took ages aswell. But like I said the anticipation is killing me

No I work freightliner Leeds now but just got the job as a junior driver in South Yorkshire for DB
