Decided to give db a friendly call this morning to see if there was any news on candidate selection, they are still on the interviewing stage for doncaster and toton. I was told by a lovely lady that it's still just a waiting game which made me feel a little better. I guess it's a case of just slipping back into reality until they are ready.

They still interviewing for Doncaster? They told me interviewing all week then they rang me week after and gave me job. They must have either released more jobs or the current candidates weren't up to par (just a guess)

There are no current candidates. All internals are awaiting training or are in training.

I take it that you are employed by DB? (Sorry if you have already stated on a previous post) If so would I be correct in saying that the information I have received is false regarding candidates still being interviewed for doncaster and toton? The railway recruitment process is lengthy, so just because you haven't heard anything yet, it doesn't mean you won't. If you've been told that they're still interviewing I have no reason to doubt that.

My comment about no other candidates is that all the internals have been chosen to my knowledge and are either in training or awaiting training, then they'll move on to employing external candidates, which they've obviously started if Heaps92 has been offered a job.

I had my final interview for West Mids a month ago and still waiting so if you've not been interviewed yet I guess I've still got a considerable wait.

Im in exactly the same position, I emailed the recruitment team on Monday and they responded with 'I have contacted the West Midlands Recruitment Manager requesting his availability to conduct interviews and he has been away, we will get back to you in due course'

The wait continues.......

I applied for Eastleigh the other day. By way of a bit of background, I recently received a rejection from my DMI with Freightliner, but time waits for no man as the old saying goes! It’s a bit different to mainline obviously, but I’d be happy with starting as a Junior Driver in order to get the traction and rules knowledge to better place me when I do go mainline at some point, and the JD for this role seems to indicate that’s the intention of the role of Junior Driver. A couple of questions for anyone in the know though, and an observation;

1. The starting salary is listed as £28.5k or there abouts, can anyone advise if this is for the duration of the training? (I know depot drivers where I work at the moment are on £26k for the 6-months or so of training, then £39k thereafter).
2. Do DB Cargo staff get any travel concessions on other TOCs owned by the company, or PRIV rate etc?
3. Finally, there was mention of a travel allowance? Can anybody shed light on exactly what this means?
4. Can anyone advise if DB can use assesment pass marks from up to 5-years ago, or is it far less?
5. Do DB test to enhanced standard for driver assessments?

The observation was that applying wasn’t easy, what with a text form to fill out rather than an online application. It was stated to put all work history down, but there just isn’t room, so am I right in assuming one’s CV will be used more than this form, and the form is more to get your personal details?

I can only help on those 2 questions as I was offered an interview with DB, they accepted my assessment pass marks which were over 3 years old, and they are not to enhanced standard.

Great, thanks for that. Those were two of my more important questions answered. There’s a glimmer of hope still haha. Out of curiosity, how old were your previous passes? Mine are currently about 3.5-years old.

1). That's not the starting salary, that is the salary. You need to look at what it is... An entry to the railway with a chance to progress to mainline driving.
2). None, nothing, nada unfortunately.
3). Travel allowance is paid for some depots where the drivers travel to multiple starting points. There's 3 bands, £0, £600 and £800 per year.
4). I believe they can and have.
5). Standard

Yes, the application is just basic personal information and your cv adds to that.

Thanks for that, that’s really helpful! I did think it might be the salary when I first saw the ad, but saw it said “starting salary” so thought on reflection it may be for training. I appreciate this is a step in to driving, which is what I applied for. It’s a good way of recruiting in to the grade I guess, and because of this, there’s no harm in going in with the attitude of wanting to be a mainline driver (if it was a stand-alone grade, like with my TOC, they’d be looking at recruiting you on the basis that you’ll be staying as a depot driver and aren’t just applying to go mainline one day).

Thanks for the further info. I read in an earlier post in this thread (can’t find it now to quote!) that somebody went was shortlisted for assessments for this role who had done them previously, but because they sat them more than 6-months ago, they had to do them again? I don’t think I misread it but if I can fund it I’ll quote it. Be handy if they did accept my previous passes if I was shortlisted.

Very happy had the email today to do the assessments next week, I have done them all but because it was longer than 6 months I have to do them again with DB which I’ve not got a problem with so good luck to all that have got through and keep trying to those that haven’t,

Don't see why. Db accept passes for longer than that. I don't deal with that though so can't say why that was the case.

I’ll cross my fingers. Does seem a bit strange to only accept results for 6-months (can’t imagine many people would even find another TOC/FOC that soon after to even apply to?).

As anyone heard from west Midlands as iv passed both my assessments and mmi but not heard anything for a month, I only ask as iv been offered another position within my company as a driver instructor (buses) and it's Mon to Fri 7 till 4 ,need to way up my options

Driver instructor for buses v Junior Driver (and probably mainline driver in the future)... Your choice really.

The railway will never be a 7-4 job.

Trust me when I get the knod for my final interview I'll be there ,the instructor job would only be till I get on as it all seems very slow going at minute, just didn't no if anyone else had heard from west Midlands area
