hey I'm Mike Gorst i'm currently at university studying BSC Policing

My interest apart from the railways would be the Police, Video games and Football.

As for my railways interest i have to bases of operations so to speak. Liverpool when i'm at home and wolverhampton when i'm at university so i get a mixed amount of tractions from 350's to 150's, 66's to 156's. I'm not as active railway wise as i used to be but i keep up my interest nonetheless.

Hello everyone.

I'm Trentside - currently residing in Nottingham.

My nearest station is Carlton on the Nottingham-Lincoln line, and I regularly travel between Nottingham and Lincoln, and occasionally from Nottingham to Sheffield (and even more occasionally, Leeds).

Would classify myself as having an interest in railways (obviously!) - though I'm not a spotter or photographer. I'm also interested in buses and planes, and a passing interest in cars.

Hello there!

First of all sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum but It seems like the only place to put this really.

I was recommend to come along here ages ago by VirginTrainFreak and I did sign up.

However I forgot I was registered and when I realised I was which was now I thought let's get posting and introduce myself.

Well here goes...

My name is Ashley known to most as willas00 and now being known as class450dude.

Why class 450 dude? Well to be honst I like the Blue SWT Livery and the interior of the class 450 train. If the livery and interior was on another train maybe I would be classXXXdude? Who knows lol.

I currently upload my train pictures to Picasaweb from Google

I also post my images to an iPhone application. I'll leave that out for now know.

I also do RailMiles here however I have only started recording them since 18th June 2010.

2011 should be a bigger year as I plan on spending more time travelling on the railway across the UK.

Any way I hope to be part of RailForums for a long time and hope to get to know you all.

Well I've just spent a good 30 minutes or so reading some forum posts and well there sure is lots going on.

Very handy way to keep up to date on what's going on with the railway especially with the franchisees.

The u/n comes from my distaste at TPE's claim that the 185 is a long-distance train. If it was capable of 110 or 125 with 1 or 2 extra coaches (á la class 180) I'd maybe see that, but as it is it a run from Edinburgh to Preston full-stopping is tedious. Especially when my seat happens to be in the carriage with the switched-off engine, as part of TPE's ISO 14001 environmental awareness certification.

Hi guys, glad to find this site I have just started getting enthusiastic again about diesel locomotives! My son is 5 years of age and has a big interest in Thomas (sorry if this post replicates thousands similar). I decided to take my lad to the local lines, in particular the Crewe-Stafford line at Mill Meece where my dad used to take me in the 80's. He loved it, and so did I! Can't believe such a long lost interest could be fired up so easily, it was almost like finding an old friend.

Anyway, things are different now than in the 80's, for a start its more boring to be honest as the express trains are Pendelino's around here instead of the old 86 and 87's (believe the latter are now in Bulgaria, I'm sure they prefer the climate). But these 66's are growing on me.

Other than introducing myself, I thought I would ask if one of you far superior knowledge than me type individuals could post a link for open days at sheds? I think I have just missed Crewe works open day but I don't mind traveling and when I mention it to my lad his face lit up as mine would at winning the lottery.

Cheers mate. When I was a lad (Hovis music commences) Crewe had an open day on two or three occasions in a year. They must still do something similar even though locomotives aren't as popular as they were.

It's freaky seeing the 86's double headed pulling freight nowadays. Again, when I spotted in the 80's (hovis music gets louder) they were thundering down the line with 'inter city' expresses. Oh well, time moves on at least they are still knocking around unlike my old friend the 87.

I believe there is still one 87 in the UK, 'Royal Sovereign' if my info is correct. Does anyone know where it is? I did hear a rumour it was stored at Crewe works?

87002 is the only one in use at present, it was at Willesden TMD the other day - pretty sure that it is still there. The only thing that it currently gets used on is the odd charter train, same applies to 86101 - also restored in BR blue.
