That was a case of whoever-got-there-first ;)

A fairly rare unit that has only one relative, which under normal circumstances it never sees, this class is found only in a limited part of the English network. Instead, it encounters all manner of different trains on its main route, some of which date back to the 1970s or even 1960s. It shares duties on its route with one other class, which fulfills a different role to this class on the route in question; this other class also operates elsewhere in the country and has several more abundant relatives. Its introduction was effectively responsible for a notable change in the local infrastructure.

As near as possible to Waterloo East...
Floor taken

We are an EMU

We have operated on many routes, but we no longer operate the route on which some of us were intended for. We were used briefly on this route again in the not too distant past.

One subclass operates on another route, which the newer subclass of this class were ordered for.

We are the last of our manufacturer's products in daily service in the World, but our days are numbered. There were over 100 of us built.

Edited to add:

No takers yet?

I'll be going offline in about ¾ hour - do I need a volunteer to safeguard the answer? Alternatively you could always run a side game if there are suggestions followed by a long wait until I'm online tomorrow night...

hmp455 - the floor is yours; I am indeed thinking of the A Stock, the last Cravens stock in daily commercial use in the world ( to the best of my knowledge anyway ).

Hmm!

Note that I may not be able to attend to this until the evening due to a certain other forum commitment of mine, but here is the next poser.

A rare-ish unit that still operates in the areas it was designed for, it is among the more well liked units on this forum - but a limited number disagree. It has one distinctive feature that was introudced on a few different units, mostly in and around London - and even on the Underground, where it made its last appearance. This unit is a common sight at two Network Rail managed stations outside of London, and has several relatives.

I think you all need to note carefully the Network Rail bit of the clue. I have inserted the word "managed" to clear any confusion this may have caused.
