Quite! As for me, it's a tricky one, as I'd love to drive an unrebuilt 'Merchant Navy' on the ACE or Bournemouth Belle, but I think - in the end - I'd go for a streamlined Duchess over Shap.

I can think of countless locomotives and units I'd love to drive, but at this moment in time, I'd give anything to have a drive of an A Stock before they are finally withdrawn from the Met. Well... maybe not anything, but I'd still love too!

Now if we're going onto where we'd drive our preferred motive power, I think I'd be quite chuffed to give the Lickey a go. A thousand tons on the back of a pair of heavyweight 37s, with the only run-up to the bank being from Bromsgrove loop.

Would love to have a go up Slochd and that other Drumochter (I can't remember the spelling sorry!) bank on the Highland Main Line on load 12 with a pair either, or for that matter a single to Oban. Plenty of wide-open action to be had there!

Oh to have the skill, experience and knowledge with a similarly equipped fireman on a rebuilt "Merchant Navy" circa 1960. Ten on behind a tender full of softened water and shiny Yorkshire black gold and continuous clear signals on a non-stop from Waterloo to Salisbury. That's a train.

A class 318 unit on the North Clyde Line would be great and from May a class 320 unit from Motherwell to Dalmuir or Milngavie!

Would give my right arm to drive a Class 81-85 Roarer. Had a few cab rides as a secondman years ago, but never actually got to have a drive. Great looking loco's, great sound, and i'd love to pit my wits against a tap-changer.
A Class 87 would be a close second.
