So you could do the modifications cheaply and quickly, and without ORR/RSSB approval, and without changes to insurance, etc?

It's not just "removing seats".

I very much doubt it is as easy as you think to convert a multiple unit carriage into what's essentially a goods wagon.

Was it really a seaside special though, (ie an extra train in the timetable) or just a way of overcoming capacity issues which ought to be solved by the ongoing transfer of Turbos to Bristol area?

Maybe it was just a way of adding capacity, as it's certainly only adding to a route that runs year round, but I think running it earlier down and limited stops could have still been justified.

So it seems, maybe with all their other ongoing issues regarding crew shortages at weekends they reckon it's best not to timetable a a return train that they will probably be among the first to cancel. Maybe it just wasn't popular enough as after a 2.5 HR trip from Bristol , you'd only get about 5 hours on the beach before 2.5 hrs back. I'd have thought it'd be easier to go to Weston super mare.

But at least with Weymouth you've got a better chance of seeing the sea!
