Hull Trains Adelante problems

Hull Trains shelled out for their 222s, so by that reasoning, why should EMT have them whilst they are working with the currently hopeless 180s.

Pardon my ignorance, but are you saying that HT actually owned the 222's then, and not one of the ROSCO's?

IMHO it was imperative for FNW to get the units working properly, as they didn't have anything to fall back on. These were their premier units, and the alternative was bringing back pacers and heritage DMUs.

Although they didn't have to 'bring back' DMUs, they did have to keep them for 3-years longer than originally hoped- and supplemented the fleet with hand-me-downs from SPT. I have a mug at home that says 'Out with the Old, in with the New' - with a picture of a 175 with a Clacton and 37. It's dated May 2000. Although the Clacton's were withdrawn about a year after that, I found it rather funny that the 'old' in the form of the DMUs carried on over 3 years after that date, and loco-haulage on the North Wales coast lasted even longer, though not with 37s of course.

The 180s are really being shockingly bad at the moment.

When they had the 222s they were one of the best operators on the network. The 180s have ruined that reputation.

They have (or did have) a pool of 5 180s and they can't even get out 3 a day! They only used to have 4 222s!

The idea I was aiming for was that if a 175 was failed one morning, they'd have to use an old, less desirable unit for that diagram.

Well, word has it (no link im afraid - on of the guys on UKTS) is that HT are leasing a train on weekends to run with HT - giving more time for the 180's to be under maintenance, and therefore apparently less problems in the week.

Hope that Grand central have checked their class 180's out, however i suppose they have enough on their plate trying to sort the hsts out. With regard to the latter is it the same 2 hst sets that are playing up like they did a few months ago?

Rumour is that it's a HST set leased from FGW

But, it will only be leased at the weekends... So, weekdays - i'm not sure whats going to happen =/

Now, i'm no fully sure when this will occur, but it will happen before the end of the summer. Hull trains drivers will start traction training shortly, followed by 'on-board' crews soon afterwards.

Basically, the HST (only 1 I believe, so far) will run from Old Oak Comon on (early) Saturday mornings and work HT services to/from Hull that day. It will stable overnight on Saturday, in Hull (platform 7), then run back to London on Sundays, returning to O.O.C on Sunday nights. FGW has spare HST capacity at the weekends, so this is why the lease will be happening. It has already been agreed at boardroom level, withing "Firstgroup".

Hull trains will be able to carry out more maintenance on the 180s at the weekend, because of this - hopefully lessening "failures" in the process

I could see potential in this. Hull Trains and FGW seem to have been working together quite a lot of late. I wonder if some staff are still trained on MK3s following the hire of the 86 set?

I for one cannot wait to see a FGW HST on any part of the ECML, the First livery looks rather smart on any thing that First uses from the HSTs to the 180s and would serve as a good reminder to NX on what a livery should be like!
