We are in the early stages of a rise of transmission of a potentially deadly virus again. If it hasn't escaped your notice, singing, shouting, not wearing a mask, and failure of any kind of social distancing within a personal bubble are leading causes of spread. If you are happy having middle aged drunk loudmouths acting this way in your presence, great. But many passengers quite like the idea of being able to continue breathing. Conscientious rail staff will continue to look after the best interests of those who wish to travel safely. There is no place on the trains at the moment for drunks having a midlife crisis.

Sorry but what you’ve said above is hyperbolic to the point of ridiculousness. Covid 19 poses a similar risk to flu for most people, and there’s very little evidence masks do anything to reduce the spread.

Unless your TOC has banned alcohol, people have every right to have a few drinks on the train, and are entitled to remove their masks while doing so. This is normal behaviour! See upthread for examples of bad behaviour. It’s also not your job to police mask wearing (ask your TOC, ask your union).

(although looking at a few of them I would superglue a permanent mask to their faces for improvement purposes)

Honestly, can you not see how badly the above comes across? Where is the need be so insulting and personal? It just makes you sound incredibly bitter and paints the guard grade in a terrible light. If you despise the travelling public that much, why do the job?
