2000 VW Golf estate 1.9TDI.
The guy's a trader and a mechanic, but he usually sells 4x4s, that's his own car.

I'm looking for a practical, economical and reliable diesel estate that's not going to cost a small fortune to insure and run. Plus I like VWs, and I really like the 1.9TDI (in any VAG car).
The day I win the lottery I'll be buying this.....

Me, for one. I might look at an old Panda next, but the very few left in decent nick are rather pricey!

What happened? How fast were you going?
It was many years ago now, the car was worn out as it was and I think travelling at just below 90mph was the final insult for the engine!
I've had a few incidents like that, just carelessness on the part of the driver that doesn't indicate.
Motorcyclist are the worst for safety, darting in and out of the cars as if they were tree branches.

We never exceed the speed limit on a motorway, as there is nothing to be gained by this.

Heh, in reality, I'd never actually own anything like that - I prefer a more sensible car that I'll actually enjoy driving every day.

Unfortunatly I have to agree to a point. There are a lot of bikers that do this on the motorway, and it regularly results in an accident. I will filter, but filtering should only be done if the traffic is crawling or stationary, not just because you want to go faster than the other traffic. You should ride through at a steady speed watching carefully for any sign that someone might decide to change lane. If it's daytime I'll usually pop the high beam on too just to make sure people see me. A lot of riders seem to forget how vunerable they are.
Just enjoy the thought that it's only a matter of time before those people dart in front of an unmarked police car!

That is something that really irritates me.
It's very annoying getting dazzled by bikers who ride with their full beams on during the day.
Ones who do that are stupid. But nearly all have low's on so they can been seen a lot more easier when they are riding out and about. Same as whats been on Volvos & Saabs for a while now as standard and should becoming law on all new cars soon.

All new cars sold in the EU after 7th Feb this year are required to have DRLs fitted as standard.
I don't mind them too much, though I personally prefer LED ones mounted in the bumper that aren't too bright. I was dazzled by an Alfa driving towards me a couple of days ago, at first I thought it had it's headlights on, but it turned out to be the DRLs.

I don't ride around all the time with them on, only under circumstances where it would be very bad for someone not to notice me, and you can't deny there are a LOT of car drivers that don't check their mirrors. Seeing the reflection of a bike with high beams in your side view mirror for a few seconds during the day certainly won't dazzle you, but it will get your attention. That's the whole point.
Some of them are quite bright though. Such as those on the newer Mercs E classes and so on.
When my dad had a v70 a lot of people kept flashing him as they 'believed' he left the lights on, but was just the DRL. Also eclipse i know what you mean. Ok not on a motorbike but on a normal pushbike, they barely ever notice or check.

My wife has just changed her Vauhall Corsa for a Ford Ka Edge 1,3, which seems to have all the extras that you quoted above plus electronic windows, central locking, a top of the range music system,etc. All the extra were FREE as we bought it TWO DAYS before the end of the March month deadline.
I thought that a Ford Ka was a "Noddy" car as it was small and neat, but this model we have just bought is anything but...it appears to have grown in all directions. Still, it is a nice shade of metallic pale ice blue, which is what my wife insisted upon. She has to be reminded that she no longer needs to think she is a "thwarted" rally driver!!
My wife likes the deep purple you can get the Ka/Fiesta in (and possibly the all-new Focus). I think the colour actually takes precedent over everything else!!
We even had a Fiesta that she named 'Bluey'. I didn't know cars had names (other than 'piece of s**t' when it goes wrong).
