Highest freqeuncy from one station?

By my rough maths, using the table here, Stratford in east London has, including Underground and DLR services, 107 trains per hour departing off-peak (including set-down only).

That seems to me to be quite high- is there anywhere in the UK (it'll probably be in London) that can beat that for weekday off-peak services?

Anywhere abroad?

It'll take a while to count up. But say you were doing St Pancras, you would count Kings Cross St Pancras, so would you count Kings Cross?

But if we were looking at the frequency between one station and another station ( as opposed to the pure number of movements per hour at a station ), then surely the top contenders would be ( in no particular order ):

Oxford Road - Deansgate

Charing Cross - Waterloo East - London Bridge

Clapham Junction - Waterloo

Clapham Junction - Victoria

Edinburgh Waverley - Haymarket

I wouldn't count the tube at Kings Cross as the same station as the mainline.

It is technically a separate station with a different name.

Whereas Stratford, or Ealing Broadway for example are included in the same station, same entrance, same name, one building etc (you get the idea).

If London bridge had a bigger LUL station, it would be Clapham Jn, London Bridge, then maybe Stratford in that order...

That's only 5tph each way. Even Oxford Road - Piccadilly isn't that high, about 8.

Charing Cross - Waterloo East

16tph each way.

Clapham Junction - Waterloo

37tph (counting the loop services only once). Slightly less heading the other way as long distance services are pick up only at Clapham Junction.

Clapham Junction - Victoria

23tph, 22tph heading the other way.

Edinburgh Waverley - Haymarket

Somewhere around the 12 - 14tph mark.

Partick-Hyndland as well in Scotland; even more spectacular given that it's only two tracks, compared to the others listed which are busier but have the luxury of 4 of more tracks (although correct me if I'm wrong on this).

I reckon there's 14tph off peak at Partick in each direction, with more in the rush hour, plus frequent ECS movements. If you were to add the Subway (assuming a 4 minute frequency on each side) then you'd be a mere 58tph all in all at the station - might not seem as much as others, but once again do consider the fact that it's only got two mainline and two Subway platforms!

Counting the tube is the only way you can come up with Network Rail's astonishing statement that Farringdon will be the busiest station in London when Crossrail and Thameslink are running, with 140 tph, far more than Clapham Jn, so they say.

That's based on 48 tph Thameslink and 48 tph Crossrail, and 44 tph LU. But note the way they count up and down separately (what the layman would call a 24 tph service) - wouldn't that make London Bridge busier if you add the two underground line frequencies to SE, SN and Thameslink there, and double them all up for up and down trains as well?

I think Clapham's claim was Guinness Book of Records ratified- but was (possibly still is) based on counting every single passenger passing through, whether or not they get on or off- even counting those (I think) on trains that pass through without stopping

It's got nothing to do with passenger numbers. It's based on train movements.

Clapham Junction would be far and away the best for heavy rail NR movement, I would have thought that Bridge would just beat Stratford in the overall score (LUL, DLR, etc), but the sign at Clapham Junction doesn't lie.

That's what annoyed me most about NR's self congratulatory puff piece about Farringdon. They could only make their point by including the LU services, otherwise it was complete rubbish...

though to be fair to them you use exactly the same entrance/exit as you would with LUL and its pretty much the same station so why not?

D'oh - I'd forgotten about that; one of my haulage vaccuming locations as well!

I didn't think all the services on that stretch of line stopped at Deansgate (?) - am sure some pass straight through. And if we are counting "trains which don't stop" then that increases other routes too, like the Manchester - Bournemouth which runs through Stockport non-stop.

The Manchester to Bournemouth service stops at Stockport. Very few trains don't stop at SPT, I'm sure there was some condition in building the viaduct that trains had to stop at Stockport station. I know XCountry didn't stop there for about a six month period then reinstated services.

For a while the Manchester - Bristol services were fast to Stoke, but they now call at Stockport again.
