Help needed for Operative Role.

Hello, I am in the process of the Operative [Track Inspection] recruitment process. Could someone please explain a bit about the role, the job spec online is very generic and it gives the same blurb as the Operative (Track Maintenance) role, so I can't distinguish the main duties to do more research. Any info is on the Track Inspection role would be greatly appreciated.

Track inspection is patrolling to look for defects in the p-way (track).
Track maintenance will be doing more of the actual maintenance of the p-way—shovelling, packing, changing sleepers, moving rail etc.

There might be some overlap between the two roles.

This is for signalling maintenance, more commonly known as S&T. It will involve looking after the signalling equipment (signals, points, train protection and detection equipment), and are generally also combined fault finding teams. Expect to be taking readings with a multimeter and other test equipment and visual inspections.

Got an email from network rail last week after the test saying my application was being considered further, is this a good sign? How long roughly does the recruitment process take?

It will take a couple of months in all honesty. You have to remember there will be atleast 100 applicants for any operative job. I had an interview last Friday that I applied for in March so be patient and do as much research as possible. Good luck
