Help - left without payment (forgot to buy a ticket)

What would/should someone in your position have done if you hadn't been stopped on leaving the station, but then later in the day realised you'd forgotten to buy your ticket?

I asked this one to 9 people around the office:

6 would do nothing
2 would go back and secretly buy ticket in case they got recognised on the return journey
1 would confess all

Coming from a newly informed position (ie better understanding of rules and regs); perhaps one should return to the station, pay and sleep easy?

If you travel 3-4 times a week,and it seems in peak times, might be worth getting a season ticket, then no issues.

Too costly for 2 or 3 trips a week, and you have to pay all up front, shame no direct debit option. E tickets or a Tag system would be good, I have one for the m6 toll, I drive thru, it beeps, bills my credit card. Simples.

You can get monthly or weekly season tickets if you don't want to pay for a year up front.

BTP seemed convinced an assault there some time ago was quote "not on railway land", and was a GMP issue.

There is a very good reason for this: the BTP officer who said this didn't want to deal with it!

If I had a penny for every time i've heard BTP say "the [insert crime here] happened just outside the station. Ring the local force as we can't possibly deal..."

Yes, it has long been held in railway circles that BTP means we'll Be There....Perhaps.....

There is no jurisdiction so to speak - quite the opposite in fact as officers from either force could deal if they wanted.*

It's more a case of the officer from one force not wanting to deal with the job and having a legitimate reason to get the other to deal with it.

*There are certain railway offences that only BTP can deal with but these are few and far between when talking about the usual day to day of assaults, thefts, robberies, suicidal people etc...
