Hello everyone, I would like to get some informations about how to start in the best way with trying to apply on Railway Service sector jobs - mostly for Passenger Service Agent positions or any others like On board positions or handling with customer service.
I wish to know before making any applications how can I improve my chances or at least get any expierience before apply. I was wondering already if there exist any volunteer for that kind of job to at least gain some knowledge or any graduate scheme, some course or anything like that. I tried already to ask by sending email to DLR but there was no answer back. I don't really have any idea where to start and at this point I desperatly seeking for some help. I hope someone can be so kind to offer just a little advice in this case.

Thanks in advance, Adrian

Have a good cv that highlights your ability to do the job - you want a customer facing role then make sure you can demonstrate that with your previous experience.

No matter if you have got any cs facing experience but it helps a little.

Also when you look at jobs on the web - the best way to see vacancies - look at it and see if you can tweak your cv towards each requirement - not all ask in the same way even though they ask for the same thing, in essenence.

Don't think the DLR will recruit for psa's for a while but I do know that they have just listed for a depot shunter which is a good way in to the company - check their website(serco)

Thanks for the advice :) I heard just now that serco lost contract for DLR so now I think even that is going to be a bit difficult. I have previous expierience with providing customer service so I hope that is going to be at least some advantage. Hope that there is a way to at least find any position anywhere just to start somehow and let's see how is it gonna be :) Still I'm just wondering about one thing if anybody knows about maybe some volunteer jobs in this sector? Just to get some expierience and more knowledge to make some advantages for the future :)

Your best bet for a volunteer role would be the heritage railways imo...

It seems the depot shunter job isnt on their website anymore as just checked but keep an eye on it - just because they lost the franchise doesnt mean they will stop recruiting as they still need people to work there to replace other staff.

But keep checking all the relevant websites as CS vacancies come up quite often but on random days of the week. Imguessing youre london based so remember to check lorol too as people forget about them
