yes it is

Here is the report by the Bournemouth Echo regarding the petition.

A delegation, headed by the Rev. Alex Russell and Desmond Swayne MP went to SWT HQ London to present a petition of some 8,000 signatures requesting the reinstatement of Ian Faletto. On arrival, only the Rev. Russell was permitted to enter, Mr Swayne felt the others being denied entry was a very poor show, and would be raising the issue in Parliament.

SWT issued the following statement. It noted that this was a publicity stunt, and also noted the desire to create confrontation. This had been also directed at construction workers who are not SWT employees

this would not alter the facts. The facts regarding Mr Faletto's dismissal are substantially different to the seriously inaccurate picture painted to date. The case has been reviewed and is now closed. We will not carry out any further review of this case.

We will ensure that the full facts regarding what was a serious breach of safety regulations are made public at an employment tribunal if so required.

There is another thread on the same subject and a post made by someone who is a manager and says he has a member of staff just like Felatto who seems to live in a world of his own, calls himself stationmaster and so on. This individual became rather upset at an unannounced audit, where it was found that he shut the ticket office to go shopping

Wonder whether the "train crash" scenario has been invented by Faletto or his supporters to try and justify his actions going to the vicinity of the tracks to remove the trolley. If he had contacted his superiors and followed their advice would still have a job

following after spellcheck picked up 5 typos

I can't believe the Echo would even spell Ian Faletto's name wrong!

I'll ask again, can you link me do it?

I typed this from a purchased copy of the Echo, any typos are mine, not the paper. Have edited my post. Anyway having been saddled with the surmane Woolford due to my parents having that name, I have lost count of the times I have been addressed as Walford, Wolford, Woodford and spelling it phonetically brings a lengthy pause of disbelief that these letters can be assembled in that order....

anyway the verbatium copy may be found at bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/9049536.Case_of_sacked_railway_worker_going_to_parliament/ hope ok as have had to type it manually, or go to bournemouthecho.co.uk & look for appropriate link on page

just looked at the page and the original 8,000 signatures becomes 8,00 a couple of lines later, so I'm not the only one to mis-spel!
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
also SWT are quoted as saying that it would be entirely wrong for any disciplinary decision, especially one involving a serious breach of safety regulations to be infuenced by external parties or factors

I hope I had covered the essential points of the story - consider Mr Swayne's comments irrelevent. SWT consider the matter closed, and the story reported by the media to be very inaccurate. If the case is referred to a tribunal, they will reveal the full facts leading to their decision.

These comments may be viewed through the link "South West Trains defend their decision to sack Lymington stationmaster Ian Faletto" - note the title

The last two paragraphs of my 1649 editied post are firstly comments made on another thread in this forum on the same subject, and the last paragraph is a thought of my own as to whether Faletto, or his supporters, have tried to justify his actions by claiming that the trolley presented a life threatening situation,

Our local rag, the Welwyn Hatfield Times is just as bad with typos and a complete failure to do proper research.

However, I've found the story and it does appear to be a bit different. It has either been corrected or the above text was re-written and not a direct cut and paste.

http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/ne...of_sacked_railway_worker_going_to_Parliament/

that's the same link as the one I posted.
It was not me who renamed the Guardian the Grauniad because of its many typos. Is the Ricket Rescue group still active on the FFestiniog, so named as the day one of the Hunslet 0-4-0' s derailed, the Grauniad reported the deraliment of Stephenson's Ricket

Or shopping trolley?

Like it - or off his trolley.

Also like your comment re your experience with your TOC.

Swayne's rant regarding SWT does not raise my estimation of him, rather the opposite. I'm not sure whether this appears in this thread or the second one on the same subject, but the comment is SWT appear to be the better of the two parties. They have made their decision, and are keeping a dignified silence, stating that they will reveal the facts behind their decision at a tribunal, contrast with the pro Felatto faction which seems to think that
" Blessed are they that do shout and moan, for they do get their own way in the end".

Especially if facts are ignored or distorted

visited Town station today and it is manned, although much of the display has been removed.

The Lymington Times carries the same story of the delegation being snubbed, it seems media support for Faletto is growing. They mention that a driver sacked by SWT in 2002 subsequently won his appeal at a tribunal has anyone any further details on this?

He may well have done but it probably wont set a precedent for this case - especially as we dont know what he was sacked for.

I knew the Driver involved in the case you are talking about. I found this easy to find link about Greg, however the full details of the Industrial tribunal i cant find. As you can see clearly here Greg was discliplined for his trade union activities whilst he was a driver at Waterloo.

http://www.rmt.org.uk/Templates/Internal.asp?NodeID=95361&int1stParentNodeID=89732

He won his case against SWT in 2002 but sadly lost the battle to live when he got throat cancer, he died from the cancer in April 2008.

SWT state officially, due to employee confidentiality, they cannot just reveal the factors they took into account regarding his dismissal outside a tribunal.
However, it seems that there has been a history of miscounduct, leading to his posting to Sway, then Lymigton, SWT state that his dismissal was due to a serious breach of safety regulations.
Having lost his appeal against his dismissal, Faletto has gone to the media and they have swallowed his side of the story whole by all accounts. It is only because others have taken up his case that this story goes on.
The letters page of the Lymington Times shows how far his supporters are from reality.
I'm surprised he hasn't been knighted or canonised due to quotes such as

"The removal of the shopping trolley was an act of heroism"

"Who is this petty bureaucrat who deemed it necessary to bring this to the attention of his superiors and thus relieve us of our wonderful stationmaster?"

"the boxtickers who sought fit to fire Mr Faletto were obvoiusly unable to handle his mild eccentricities"

"The trolley on the line incident was just a convenient excuse to get rid of a man.....(who) showed up the mediocre performance of the majority of other SWT staff"

The behaviour of the delegation presenting the petiton to reinstate him shows the attitude towards bad ol' SWT, poor mr Faletto.

Complete this joke "How many protesters does it take to deliver a petition?" The resulting brouhaha and rantings of Mr Swayne MP were due to only the Rev. was permitted entry to hand over the list of signatures requesting Mr Faletto's reinstatment

Read pp 11 to 13 of this thread re alleged conduct

I know two other threads on this subject have been closed, todays Lymington Times reports that Faletto is going ahead with the tribunal, reportedly with RMT representation. Papers have been lodged, the next step is for the date to be announced, and then we will see as SWT have stated that they will reveal the facts behind their decision to dismiss him at a tribunal

I think that so much has been written on this forum on more than one thread about this matter, that no-one should post any more until the final outcome is revealed and then someone can make the posting with the full story. Then this will put an end to the matter.

I'm going to merge this with the original thread. I think the subject is best left to rest - for now at least! If & when we get the results of the tribunal we can either open a new thread then, or re-open the old one.

But, at the moment, it appears there are no significant developments yet in this case.
