Please do keep up, 2 sets of stock out between Darlington & Sunderland using DRS traction. For times, put Darlington - Sunderland into National Rail Enquries and select 'no changes', these will be the times.

Yeah, posted that then saw the gen over on WNXX

I note that the dRS/Northern shuttle has only 5 mins each end to load passengers, crew change ends etc - best hoping for no delays!

Most probably for pathings at Darlington, if it gets stuck there it could have to wait a while. Wonder what platform it will use?

Not too sure, the longest set I've seen there is a 2x156. Either that or they use one of the through platforms very quickly. Platform 4a that is.

Yeah, never even thought about 2 & 3 for some reason. Just double the 142's up in the few periods of the day there are two sets at Darlington and use P3 for the shuttles.

The bays even during the week are only used for one set at a time, apart from at night when they terminate and stay there. Sure the shuttle could use one bay and the 142s be either moved to the other bay, a couple stored in 4a or if needed one of the sidings in the station used.

store anything in 4a and you pick up the delays to all trains into 4 aswell as blocking alternate route south if anything goes wrong in platform 1.
The bays do at times have more than one set - its not just at night.

I don't see how putting something into 4a creates delays for trains going into 4, Northern sometimes have their 142 on a Bishop service there and it doesn't create problems. Only problem I can see is that when it is time for the service to leave 4a southbound, this would require anything going north into 4 to be held south of Darlington, although the shuttle could be planned in advance to make use of the small leeway between trains going north.

As for the bays, normally the terminating 142 from Saltburn forms the next train back after a half hour wait. The only time I can think of them having more than one set in each bay platform is early morning, late night and just after rush hour.

anything in 4a causes a delay to a train into 4 from the south - if its timetabled then its no problem because its included but anything additional in 4a the cost of the delay goes with it - quite simple really.

and working at darlo for over 30 years I know the inward service usually makes the next departure but not always - as it happens the workings for Tall Ships weekend appear to use platforms 1,2 and 3 for the shuttle fitting in between the scheduled services with the early morning Sunday services using platform 1 even though the station shuts as midnight - sure management will sort that out.

How exactly? Travelling 15mph less for 128 metres doesn't seem much to me?

I still don't see how it would cause delay, the extra trains would be timetabled to run between normal services and it doesn't make a huge amount of difference to anything going into platform 4. Any train from the Middlesbrough branch has to cross the ECML to get to the station so it wouldn't make much difference what platform it was going into.

2 sets of DRS top and tail locos( most likely 47 and 57) to work 6 or 7 return trips between Sunderland and Darlington through out event.

Well:/
It's already very full here in hartlepool, I had to wait 40 minutes for my local bus as it was overcrowded on every other one (they run every 10 minutes), trains still 2-carriages, so its pretty crowded there too.

Nedding a duff, shame on you!

I've had plenty of opportunities to have it in the past, but have never been prepared to go far for it. Now is the ideal chance. Given that it was a former ECML machine (as 552) and then a XC one as a twank, I think I've done pretty well not to have had it before!

Well I need '712, but I'm purely there to scratch the 57s of course...

57004 was quite good* in Anglia, much louder than your average ronnie and without quite the volume a bit 071 like.

Don't know what playing around they have done with it but with a comfy MkIII and a big GM screaming away on the front, leaving Acle could almost have been Athenry or similar...

Did these today. The set with 47712+57004 managed to be within 10mins of the shedule most of the day, only been delayed at Seaham due to the long signal section on the up.

However 57009+47802 were delayed on their 1st trip of the day by about 45mins & were behind badly until mid afternoon when 1443 Darlington-Sunderland they worked terminated at Hartlepool so they could get on time.

But a good day anyway & after the 1st round trip, went to York & dropped onto the Pathfinder trip with 67029, so did that back to Hartlepool, then dropping back onto ship-ex's.

Just like the old days with diesel hauled service trains in the north east.

Haha, i remember this. People expected a Sunderland train, and I had to take the stick explaining its terminating, and that they must wait for the 4-carriage Northern!

I must have seen you today at some point. I was one of those in the orange High-Vis jackets!
