Merseytravel are proposing to take the Halton Curve beyond GRIP 3 to nearly Grip 4 during 2014/15 at a cost of £500,000 though they are hoping for other local authorities to contribute to the cost later. It ranked near the bottom on Merseytravels scheme prioritisation list (28th out of 36) as most of the benefits wernt in Merseyside but elsewhere in the region. A update on the 2009 demand estimate will be published in the first quarter of 2014, its waiting on a statistical release to be published in February.
The scheme has been priced at £16m by Network Rail but theyve advised that if it can be done at the same time as Weaver and Wavertree Junctions in 2016 then economies of scale will reduce the cost to £10.5m. Amusingly in the same way Network Rail renamed the Manchester Hub to the Northern Hub to make it more palatable Merseytravel are proposing that Halton Curve be renamed the Mersey Dee Link to promote its benefits outside the borough of Halton.
