I had mine in dec and did 3 questions but I think they change on a
Rota so be have example available,
1) on dealing with procedure
2) decisions making
3) concentration
4) professional development
5) why you want to be a drive and what you will do to prepare
Use STAR and can’t go far wrong

Is the talent pool you are in for trainee driver? I applied for Trainee Depot Driver in Plymouth back in May and am just waiting on DMI.
Just gauging the wait I could be in for if you have applied for depot as well. Haven’t seen much on here regarding those positions.

Standard across the industry - you’ll often find that two weeks worth of work are put back to back. It allows for long weekends of rest days.

when did you do your DMI? I'm currently waiting to get a DMI for the Paddington HEX as a trainee. I passed the assessment centre last week, so impatiently waiting, even though I know it could be a while. Good stuff on getting through, though.

I don't think we're supposed to post exact questions here. Just did the video interview and it was straightforward. There were only four question (3 video and 1 typed) and they were all questions asking for examples of key skills you might need to be a train driver and/or your motivation for applying.

Hi, I did the video interview recently. Someone further up the thread helped me so i thought I'd pay it forward.
For the questions, I'm pretty sure they are different for each person. None of the ones i had prepared answers for came up, they also weren't the same as ones other people have suggested. I would guess they are chosen based on the judgment test we did with the initial application. However they were mostly along the lines of "give an example of ...", they were not hard and you should be able to think of an example pretty easily. Just stick to the STAR method and you'll be fine.
The format was 3 video questions + 1 typed question (re-confirming your post code). You get a practice question first with unlimited time so you can check your camera is working and get a feel for it. The instructions were very clear and straight forward.
When you start you get the questions 1 at a time, you click to see the question and a 60 second timer starts for you to think about your answer. Then it starts recording automatically for 3 minutes. You can click to end recording if you finish your answer early. Then you get a couple of minutes to re-watch the recording where you can choose to re-record or save the answer. If you click re-record you get a 10 second count down and then it starts recording again. The re-recorded answer gets saved automatically at the end so I would say only re-record if you need to, you don't get to chose the best of the two for example.
All this gets explained with the practice question so it should be straight forward. Other than that just try to relax and speak naturally.

Exactly this, my depot has three links. The top link doesn't do nights and has around 15 people on it so the shift rotation is 15 weeks. Second link even more people on it and then the starter link is 8 so an 8 week rotation. Some depots are very early starts or very late evenings so be prepared for some very antisocial shifts.

I'm livid! I did my video interview today but on the last question where you actually speak, Google Chrome froze and cost me my first chance. Reloading the browser after a lengthy wait led to the 2nd chance being activated immediately and caught me off guard. I feel I stumbled a bit.
The first 2 questions I feel I did decently. The 3rd I think I definitely could have done better but I don't think it was awful. It'll be a tough one to swallow if I don't pass. Never trusting Chrome again.

I had an issue where one of the questions didn't record at all, I contacted GWRRecruitment@gwr.com who gave me another chance, but had to do it again within 72hrs. If that's any help.
I would have thought that there would be driver hours restrictions (similar to HGV drivers) to prevent fatigue etc so didn’t think working 7 days in a row would be possible. Not that I have a problem with it, just didn’t think they would want someone in a high responsibility role doing that.
There are limits - 1) shift length no more than 12 hours, 2) minimum of 12 hours rest between shifts, 3) no more than 72 hours worked in 7 days (it resets when you have a day off, so not a rolling 7 days), 4) no more than 13 consecutive shifts without a day off. Working 7 days in a row is a very common feature of train driver and conductor rosters.
Companies might have their own arrangements which may be stricter but these are the basic standards the rail industry works to. They're also not actually prescribed in legislation, just industry 'best practice'. Coming from the police, I was very surprised to learn that there is no such thing as a train tacograph!

It really depends on the depot so there won't be a one size fits all answer. I mentioned previously about my depot has three links. Top links only have earlies and lates without any nights. Second link has a week of nights every 21 weeks roughly. I've just come off working 7 days in a row but these have been shorter shifts. Now on 5 days off so it doesn't feel so bad.

Any idea how long the wait is after video interview and how much notice we’ll have for assessment centre? I currently have to give work 2 weeks notice to book a day off.

It was around 1 month from video interview to being told I was successful and would progress to the next stage. It was then a further 3 weeks before I was told I was eligible to book an assessment day. They were all 2-3 months in the future, and around 10 to choose from, so plenty of time to find a date that suits you.
